Why the drinking age should be 18.

First of all, why should the drinking age be 21 in the first place?  I understand that law officials wanted to cut down on drinking and driving, but what about the adults who don't drive when they drink?  For example, I don't even have a car on campus, so what is keeping me from being allowed to consume alcohol? So let me this straight...I can be shipped to Iraq to die for this country, to die for the freedom of the government who sent me over there, but I'm not allowed to possess alcohol?Furthermore, I can elect the officials who enacted these rules?  This seems contradictory.

I agree. There are so many underage drinkers in college; there are kids who aren't even 18 that drink in high school. If you are 18 years old, in Iraq, or in the military period, you should have the right consume alcohol.

Lots of sunshine,

I don't think the reason for the high age limit is the level of mental maturity. If it was, I'd say you're right. I believe the reason it's that high is because many people are still developing physically even into their late teens (a few into their twenties), and alcohol can still do more damage to their system that a fully developed adult.
