Do you often find that you don’t have enough money? Hmm, why is that? You had some spending money, bought things on sale, cut corners, and still your cash somehow was already been depleted. We all know that money doesn’t just walk out of our wallets, so where does it all go? Read on to find out.
Time to do some roleplaying. You go to a store, coupons at the ready and only planning to purchase a couple items, though you really only need paper towels. The other coupons you just couldn’t resist because they’ll save you a few dollars.
You walk into the store and automatically grab a shopping cart. On the way to getting those paper towels, you encounter bright signs indicating sale and clearance items. 3 DVDs for $20? What a bargain! Of course, you only kinda like one of them, but you’re saving money right?
Suddenly that cart is filled with things you had never intended to come in the store for, plus you get sidetracked by the “impulse buying” section nearby the check-out line. Here you snag a few more necessities.
If that’s not enough ways to waste your money, there are also plenty of marketing scams to assist you in parting with that hard-earned cash. TV commercials with products that can be yours for “3 easy payments of 19.99” certainly don’t save you money. There’s some simple consumer trickery in that phrase. First, the word “easy” draws attention off of the “3 payments”. The 19.99 instead of $20 makes it appear as if it’s cheaper, even though there’s only a penny difference.
Being less susceptible to marketing scams and impulse shopping can help save you money. Once you do that, you can go blow it on something you actually want.
