I thought I'd make my first post in this new blog be one of my already written articles for my school's newspaper. Next entry will be better, I swear. Anyways, on with the show... After months of waiting on college admissions letters, opening up the dreaded “thin envelope

Good information! I believe it is crucial for high school seniors to have a back up school just to make sure they get into some sort of education. Besides, you can always transfer if you don't like the first place you end up!

Yea, "suiciding" (or applying to only one college, and a "reach school" at that) is NEVER a good idea.

Thanks for the advice. I'm having a hard time deciding which college to go to. I didn't get wait listed anywhere, so thats not a problem.

The problem is, though, that the deposit for other schools is non-refundable. So if you send in the deposit so that you do not lose your scholarships there, then you might as well go there and forget about the college that wait-listed you. If you are so worried about scholarships, then you probably do not have $300 to waste on a non-refundable deposit. You can always reapply to your dream school the next year and transfer. In fact, I would encourage students to do that because your chances of getting into your first choice college seem to increase after you have already studied and receivied high marks at another college for a year or two. This time when you apply, the college knows that you are able to funcion and maintain good grades at the college level and you are less of a risk to their outstanding reputation.

To me, being considered is worse that being on the wait list. Why? I'm being considered for Queens College , CUNY school in NYC. To get in, I have to take the reading and writing test. If I pass it, I'm in. If not, i'm out. That's pain. The wait list is another story because it's like another way of saying "I semi-reject you". You know what I mean? So, you're gonna be on that list until whenever they want you to come. By that time comes, you probably in college already.

Good article! I'm glad I have another, oh 6 months before the college app process. Let's say I am NOT excited. Even though I do hate junior year and am excited to graduate.

Great information, what school do you write for? Being put on a waiting list posed serious confusion for me and I just decided to go for a school I already deposited for (smart move) and am going to reapply next year.

You move on with life. College is overrated anyway.

Being waitlisted would suck.

Just select another college to attend.
