Within the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie," the true story of a young woman who died in defending what she believed in, I find particular inspiration from Rachel's words as she describes in the form of her 10 year old self why she believes she was made to live. It's a beautiful dream that I feel everyone in the world can in some way relate to, I hope you enjoy it.
"I'm here for other children.
I'm here because I care.
I'm here because children everywhere are suffering and
because forty thousand people die each day from hunger.
I'm here because those people are mostly children.
We have got to understand that these deaths are preventable.
We have got to understand that people in third world
countries think and care and smile and cry just like us.
We have got to understand that they dream our dreams and we
dream theirs.
We have got to understand that they are us. We are them.
My dream is to stop hunger by the year 2000.
My dream is to give the poor a chance.
My dream is to save the forty thousand people who die each day.
My dream can and will come true if we all look into the future
and see the light that shines there,
If we ignore hunger, that light will go out.
If we all help and work together, it will grow and burn free
with the potential of tomorrow."
After reading something like this it's hard to believe that there is such a struggle to get people out helping in the world even in todays society. I myself do a lot of community work, some for personal gain, but mostly because I need community service credit for school and college and things like that. And I'm not alone in that. I've noticed recently that when I volunteer the only people there seem to be other teenagers seeking service hours or older people who have long since retired and have nothing better to do than give back to the community. But Rachael is right. It's always easier said than done, but we need to get out into the community and really start helping, donate food to shelters, travel and teach those less fortunate, even just spend a day in someone else's shoes who isn't quite as good off as you. Anything and everything makes a difference.

, most of the Rachel Corrie care was just propoganda.
