Many colleges demand community service hours, which I think they should. But, so many selfish teens see this as a chore and volunteer anywhere just to get their hours. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a senior go to the animal shelter, take the dog to a running pen, and sit down in the shade and text the whole time. What is wrong with us these days to view helping as a burden. If you must volunteer find something close to your heart. Money is not the only reward we should seek. If kids keep growing up this spoiled, it is needless to say the world is in trouble.

If only more teens think the way you do, perhaps more kids will volunteer for good reason. I must admit that some people find volunteering quite amazing while others find it boring. It probably depends on where and what they volunteer for.

I volunteered for 2 years of my life at the same faciility. And I loved it. I would do it all again in a heart beat, however, with courses and my job this year, I don't have time. I'm sure that sounds quite selfish of me, but I barely have time for homework. I know as soon as I get the chance, I will volunteer again, since then I will have more opportunities being 18.
