The other day I was in class and we were doing some group work. I was in a group with 4 black kids and were getting finished with out work early so we began to talk. Now I'm kinda friends with them, not good friends but we get along. So somehow Slavery popped up and this one girl started asking if I had ever owned slaves.... I know it's a dumb question.... Besides the fact that slavery was abolished a really long time ago. I don't believe in Slavery and even if it was still around I would never "own" anyone. So they started asking me other racist questions and they wanted to know if my family used to own slaves. Well I wasn't going to lie so I said I'm sure somewhere down the line my family owned some slaves. My family has always lived in Georgia, ever since the beginning of America so it stands to reason that slaves might have been owned. Anyway, that was the final straw.... the whole group turned on me calling me a racist and other stupid names like "cracker" - some insult. Well, My teacher understood my problem and he tried to calm my group members down but they kept giving me that "Don't Oppress Me" look so I eventually had to do the work with another group because my teacher didn't want to deal with the issue. It was so lame. It's not like I have ever done anything Racist. I never call names or make fun of anyone. It's total bull crap.

Yeah people like that are just intellectually inept. I'm sorry you had to go through dealing with a bunch of jerks :(

People like that suck. Blaming me for what my family did a hundred years before I was ever even thought of is beyond freaking ridiculous. Seems to me they were just looking for a reason to decide you were racist when in fact they seemed to be the ones predisposed to prejudice (or flat out racist) thought.

They're ignorant in themselves. They were never slaves so why should they care? Their ancestors were probably jerks and would've most likely beat the crap out of them so they would hate them too. Turning on someone just because of their race is stupid. I'm part black and part white, so does that mean I should hate my white relatives for what they did to my black relatives?! Same reasoning...
