Many people from America and different countries have claimed to be God, Jesus, and even Buddha. This has lead to many followers believing that these people were indead Jesus, Buddha, or God, so they followed their teachings and most of the followings only lead to turmoil.
1) John Nicolas Thom- Born in 1799 this man claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus. Not much is known about him, except the fact he was killed by british soldiers in 1838.
2) Jim Jones- If you have never heard of Jim Jones, the story is very tragic. Jim Jones lead his followers to Jonestown in South America where he said they would be safe from anyone who looked down on them. He claimed to be the reincarnation of all the "Gods." He was infact one of the most evil people I have researched besides Hitler of course. He told his group if they committed suicide they would be saved. His main objective was to create a perfect community, with no judgement, racism, or flaws. 900 men, women, and children, ingested cyanide and meet their fate. Jones was found with a bullet through his head. He was to much of a coward to kill himself apparently. Before these events unfolded 15 people including congressman Leo Ryan, and the people who were interviewing Jim Jones decided to leave. They were followed by some of the member's of Jone's group "The People's Temple." I saw footage on TV. The camera man was shot and so was Leo Ryan, when they were getting ready to board a plane. Some managed to escape.
3) Marshall Apple Gate- Claimed to be Jesus in 1995.
4) Suma Ching Hai-Claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus and Buddha.
5) Sergei Torop- A man from Russia who claimed to be Jesus Christ.
6) Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda- He is very full of shit. I watched an interview on him. But more information will be saved for another blog. He claims to be Jesus and that Jesus had randonly one day decided to enter his body...
7) Luc Jouret- He believed he was the 3rd reincarnation of Jesus.
8) Charles Manson- Although he is intelligent, he is totally wacked out of his mind. I watched the 1980's interview with him. This could be because of all the LSD he was taking for so many years.
Most of the information was compiled through specials I have watched on Tv. But the list comes from Wikiepedia.org. Not a realiable source, but since I have watched specials on some of these people, what they had on the site on this, was pretty accurate at least pretaining to this subject.

Interesting.
I thought Jim Jones was the one who led the community in Waco, Texas? In that case, the military killed the community.
It's funny how such flawed people (Manson being a great example) could believe they were Jesus. I mean, technically all humans are flawed....but still! Thinking you're a God is pretty extreme.

I heard about that story though. Well this is confusing me now. I know he moved his clan to South America but I am not sure where they started. I wish I knew who you were talking about, I heard about that but I really don't think it was Jim Jones. I will look it up because it is bugging me. I tried to look it up but couldn't find it. I really don't believe it was Jim Jones because I watched the footage they captured where it showed all the empty cups and bodies laying together. it was really sad. I will probably write a post about the Jonestown massacre eventually.
Yeah I believe people do this to get public attention.

The Waco thing must've been somebody else. Hold on. (To Wikipedia, awaaaay!)...
....his name was David Koresh! Yeah, sad story. From what I can tell, these people were living peaceably in this community and without warning, their building was firebombed by the military for practically no reason....I should probably do some real research on it.

Well, I know that I'm perfect, but I wouldn't expect a following or anything.....
Just kidding ;) Those who would like to be my people are more than welcome to.
Don't worry, I am not being serious. I am just in a goofy mood tonight 8-}
There's a fine line between genius and insanity right? Maybe some of these people found a small piece of the Truth, but they couldn't handle it. I can see how a profoundly religious experience could make someone go nuts. Just a thought.

If you just study the teaching of the Buddha and not the dogma you will realize that he was just some dude who found a better way to live your life. It was not until after he died that people started attaching the religious stuff to it.
If you want to learn more about Buddhism without the dogma check out www.badbuddhistradio.com
Also I want to say thank you for your post. My comment has officially put me over the 2000 point mark.
the danger lies not in claiming to be god, but in claiming that others are not.
I don't think I am in danger just because I say that Jesus, or Buddha are not gods. I still have faith but I choose to put in a more realistic way. The other day I saw a news story about parent who kept praying their sick daughter would get healthy instead of taking her to a doctor. Now she is dead and it is to late for the parents to realize their mistake.
Everyday and she still died.

Did you take your mom to the doctor fist,? The girls parents did not even do that.
My family prayed every day when I was sick as a newborn baby. Most all of them made promises and started bargaining with God. I lived.
I don't think there's necessarily a rhyme or reason to it. When it's your time to come, you come; when it's your time to go, you go.
Again, my thoughts are with you over the loss of your mother.
