Our young people these days have a lot to be worried about. Even for me being sixteen I have to be aware of my surroundings I can not take my life for granted. These recent years have been dangerous for families and friends. Just like how the recent shooting of that freshman named Chris; all he was doing was walking home from school and he lost his life because of a boy who wanted to scare someone. How can they take an innocent life that was not destined for them to take? I personally think that young people who are in gangs just need to find out who they really are and need help with building their self-esteem. Teens with low self-esteem look for love and in all the wrong places like drugs, gangs, and sex. We have to realize that our young people need help, we need someone who has a heart for us and will tell us that we need our act together; I am not saying we need a baby sitter, I am saying that we need someone who can tell us what is right and can explain reasons why we should not do a this and that because some teens have this curiosity that would get them into dilemmas that will ruin or even end their life.

I agree with you that low-self esteem and a lack of role models can contribute to crime. The the flip side of that coin is at what point do people take responsibility for them selfs?
