Who Is Teaching Our Kids?

Public school teachers in the nation's wealthiest communities continue to be more qualified than those in the poorest. Now this may sound kind of obvious right? If someone becomes a teacher in a wealthy neighborhood, complete with tree lined streets and a Porsche dealership, what are they going to expect? A large salary and smart, proper kids to teach. What does an urban school teacher have to look foreward to? Statistically, high drop out rates, low test scores, and possible shootings.
There is a federal law designed to provide all children equal educational opportunity. "Highly qualified" teachers for math, science, and reading at every school. No Child Left Behind right? Wrong.
Preliminary data released by the Department of Education show that in 39 states, the chance of finding teachers who know their subjects are better in elementary schools where parents' incomes are highest. Nevada reported having a 68% compliance rate last year.Hawaii, California and South Carolina, were below 80%.
I think it's rediculous that these schools have the possibility to lose funding. What kind of idea is that?
'Let's take money away from these poor schools so they can't afford to higher qualified teachers, or offer bonuses to attract new ones..' I mean, really.
