My pains with growing up...

Tagged:  •    •

Applying for schoalrships, getting a car, renting or buying an apartment. For all of these things you have to be 18, but why?
I am a senior at my high school and since I am not 18 years old I am not eligable for a $10,000 scholarship which would help me with everything for college. I get good grades, I dont do anything illegal but yet because I am younger then everyone else I have to suffer the consequences.
A few years back people my age were parents and now things have changed where I cant even get money for college?? I think that is so obscene!!
Why cant we be eligable for scholarships say by our grades in school? Or maybe our financial standings why age?
Now because I am too young I am not going to be able to do things that I need to do to grow up, be on my own, and start my own life... its not my fault I am only 17 so why should I suffer???
Why do my choices such as futhering my education have to come to such an extent where I may not be able to do so because of my age as a factor??
Right now I am taking classes where I earn college credits for nursing. My teacher had been telling me that when I graduate I would be able to become a Medical Assistant. I had planned on doing that full- time during summer to save my money for college but come to find out I am not able to become a Medical Assistant because I am only 17 years old. I planned on working hard for my money and trying to save money for college so I wouldnt have to take out a loan and have debt but I cant because of age discrimination.
So the only jobs I can get are at malls, fast food places but no where that would help me in the long run.
I am sick and tired of being discriminated against because I am young... Is that really what America is about???
Be free when your 18???

YOUR AWESOME!!!!
You are talking about problems that a lot of people have to deal with and a lot of people in this postition do not have parents with money to lean on and its hard and more people need to realize this.

I graduated high school at age 17. I couldn't apply for scholarships either because I had to be 18 years old. I was the saaame way! My parents make a decent amount of money to be able to pay for my college. So I was constantly turned away from scholarships who wanted low-income students to compete for their awards. I didn't mind at first, because they probably need it more than I do. In fact, I should say that they definately do need it more than I do. But it is still hard when there is preference like that when there are many others who need the money just the same. I had to take a break and apply for scholarships that were based on merit than on income because that seems to be the only way that I can compete for a scholarship.
