Is everyone this mean?
I just started ProgressiveU, and I thought that I was just stating my opininon and someone would respond telling me how thats not how they feel but I didn't think the world was so harsh. I mean really... I'm not being a little baby and deleting my account, I'll step up and fight for my rights of freedom of speech and opinions but... damn I wasn't expecting such a hateful group of people.
I have people commenting about how I wrote in caps and instead of giving me feedback on my opinion, they wrote about my way of typing. ( this is no offense to anyone I mention, I'm just giving my examples). Then I have people just yelling back at me that Who am I to tell them what to do? Hun, please, I'm not telling anyone what to do, I'm not forcing anything, I'm just expressing my opinnion. Yeah I say "You should" "You shouldn't" but its just in general, I'm telling to stop everything and do what I believe. People keep saying "its my life I can do whatever I want, blah blah" Ok. So gay's have their own life, they can do whatever they want- leave them alone. Murders have their own life- let them kill whoever they want. Entertainers have their own lifes- let them open your child to bad language, sex, drugs, and alcohol. Lets just let the world loose and do what we want because its our own lives. LISTEN TO YOURSELVES PEOPLE!
I came on here to express my opnion, not make enemies.

At least they don't just ignore you ...
Smile Like You Care
But sometimes I'd rather them,
they either are too forcefull,
or just make dumb remarks that make me realize how prejudice and hateful our country really is. I can't stand how some people think.
Guess what? You are telling everyone on this site your opinion. People will disagree with you and they are going to tell you that and they are going to tell you why. If you can't handle that, then you have issues.
And, as for how you type, there are certain formats that most people find easier to read than others. When they ask you, for instance, not to type in all caps, it is because it is hard on the eyes.
And, you might get people less angry if you didn't say things like "Ok. So gay's have their own life, they can do whatever they want- leave them alone. Murders have their own life- let them kill whoever they want. Entertainers have their own lifes- let them open your child to bad language, sex, drugs, and alcohol. Lets just let the world loose and do what we want because its our own lives. LISTEN TO YOURSELVES PEOPLE!" Comparing murderers to homosexuals is a particularly revolting thing to do.

compare murders to homosexuals, i was saying if everyone has their own lives and we can do whatever we want with them then where do you draw the line?
and im fine with people stating there opinions and telling me why they think i'm wrong but i didnt force you read my opinion so dont tell me that i can't type in caps because you think i'm yelling at you, because it was just how i felt like typing (not you but people )
Basically what i'm saying is fight for your opinion, tell me why i'm wrong, but do people really need to scream at me ? I dont think its that big of a deal
It's not screaming... more like "firm suggestions". For example, I know that you know that the letter "i" should be capitalized in certain situations. So why aren't you doing this? It just seems childish not to do so. If you don't want to write like the adult you are, then you should go to another site which won't be as concerned about these things. That's really all people are trying to tell you, just some are going to speak up about it more than others.
The people you should be worried about are the ones who don't say anything. They choose not to read your posts because they figure if you don't care enough to capitalize the first word in a sentence, then why should they care about what you have to say?
"compare murders to homosexuals, i was saying if everyone has their own lives and we can do whatever we want with them then where do you draw the line?" There is a clear distinction between being gay and killing people. Being gay and legalizing gay marriages impedes on the rights of no one. Killing people does. That is where I draw the line.

I dont think its that big of a deal" People can be very passionate about their beliefs. There will be heated arguments. And, as for all caps, it is hard on the eyes for a lot of people. It is annoying to read.

Your blog list looks like it was gleaned right out of a right wing talking points manual. Now try to tell us those are your own sentiments.
I say your either A- A replicon shill (most likely) or B- Very badly brainwashed.

Is everything for you based on a right-wing conspiracy?
Wow...
Nope. I just like to go around knocking down the diatribe people use to prop up the Replicon agenda.

You seem as though you are a relatively articulate and capable person.
I haven't really been following your comments, but from your blog I'd say using phrases like, "you should" or "you shouldn't" it sounds like you might be coming across as scolding people, rather than offering your own personal perspective into the mix. Inhibitions aside, just try and support your opinions with logic and some substantiating evidence. I'm somewhat new too, but I've found it's fairly obvious what things irritate the regular users on this site (like using all caps, poor grammar and spelling, ect.), and I'm confident you can avoid these pitfalls and move on with your blogging experiences!
Thats all anyone needs to say in a response.
Atleast we have some good people in this world
are part and parcel of this blogging experience for anyone who has strong beliefs and wants to be taken seriously...

When it comes to the Internet and Internet communities, there's a number of unspoken "rules" that are in your best interest to follow. Breaking them can result in far worse than what you got in "If it doesn't affect you...." Actually, the responses to that are nothing, so if you think those are mean, you might want to run, far away... now.
Rule #1 - Typing in all caps is the equivalent of screaming/yelling and is about as effective in getting your point across as if you were screaming at the top of your lungs in an otherwise quite room. And just like screaming in a small room is hard on the ears, typing in all caps is hard on the eyes. Now, you can use caps, bold, italics, etc to emphasize things, but doing those in the whole document loses the emphasis of the type.
Rule #2 - If you post something others consider to be wrong, be prepared to take what they throw at you. People are cruel, it's that simple. If you weren't the homecoming/prom queen, miss priss that every guy wanted to date in high school, then you'd know the level of cruelty we're talking about here. Give them a sense of anonymity and that cruelty can increase exponentially. Your best bet is to make sure you have a damn good answer to their shots and try not to let them get to you, otherwise you won't last a week. You're actually at an advantage here, because you don't have nearly as many immature flame wars that can happen in other blogs/forums where the target audience is a little younger.
Rule #3 - Don't "talk down" to your audience. It doesn't matter how incompetent you think they are, insulting their intelligence or coming across as better than you is a surefire way to get flamed and lose any and all respect that you may have had.
Rule #4 - Cite your sources, especially when dealing with controversial issues, and don't get huffy when people ask for sources if you don't provide them. This isn't because we're too lazy to look things up for ourselves, this is because we want to see where you got your information so we can compare them with the sources we've found. Also, taking ideas from another source without citing it is plageurism and illegal. Citing sources also indicates just how much research you've done on the matter, which will gain you more respect, especially if your sources aren't radical ones known for spreading propaganda (bradycampaign.com, for example).
There are probably others and different ones depending on the community (here, for example, it's generally frowned upon to use IM shortcuts and poor grammar), but these are the general ones that will get you started and avoid quite a bit of pain.
