I am amazed at the number of young girls who have eating disorders. It is a very sad thing, but I can see exactly why it has happened. When everywhere you look is creepily thin women, it makes you think that this is what most women look like. However, this women most likely have eating disorders themselves. A very small percentage of women are actually really thin. Most photos in magazines of women are also airbrushed and are made to look like the women are perfect in every way. I mean, truthfully, who wants to look at an overweight person in a bathing suit? I myself have suffered with food issues for a couple of years. I have spent most of the time for the last 3 years binge eating, then eating small amounts of food for a while, then binge eating again. It has been miserable for me, and there were times when I really felt that I would go crazy because the feelings to binge were too overwhelming. I am now trying my best to eat healthy and exercise (but not in excess) to get to the weight I want to be at without this vicious cycle. I want to be able to maintain a constant weight and be happy with myself. It's a struggle every day. I really feel bad for the girls out there who are suffering like me. I wish the media would try a little bit harder to portray women the way they really are instead of the minority that is super skinny.

True and that's why I liked that one commercial by Dove. That commercial showed real women and not models. Nobody's perfect and I go to school with many girls who starve themselves thinking they look good when all they are is skin and bones.
I understand what you mean, I have been there and today's society being skinny is overindulged, I think!
The models have actually been replaced by the singers and actresses of our time. You will find these people all over tv and in every magazine. They are everywhere. And on top of that, there are so many shows and articles dedicated to commenting on how gorgeous so and so looks and what to do to have this look and that look. When you place the standard of beauty on these superstars, girls that know that they will never look like that go to many unhealthy lengths to try to achieve that level of beauty. Not many people keep in mind that without the layers of make-up, the wigs, the push-up bras, and the air-brushing that a lot of these celebrities look like regular people.
honestly, having an eating disorder is beyond being skinny. Its a mental disorder & no one world understand unless you've experienced it, or studied ALOT about it.
