Universal Health Care = Bigger Government

I hear on hear a lot about socialized medicine aka Universal Health Care.  Yes it is a very good idea on paper.  Do you not realize that with a medical system that is entirely government run, that when you reach a certain age that the government has the right, and probabl will, to say that you are too much a liability and stop paying for your medical care?

Obviously that doesn't seem to matter.  Next, I really don't want to pay even higher taxes to support a system that is doomed to fail overtime, just like social security.  Also, you'll proabably point out that the life expectancy rate here is lower than countries with Universal Health Care, thats because we are one of the most polluted, fatest, unhealthiest nations in the world.  Universal Health Care can't fix that.

It might look good on paper and work for awhile, but eventually it will fail because when the government is in control more than they should, they tend to fuck stuff up.  Plus, the government really doesn't need to grow any bigger than it already is.

Hah! Yeah really - Universal health care can't change people's crappy eating habits.

Something must be done - some families cant afford health care. A single prescription of 10 pill can be about $80 with out health insurance - for soem people that $80 is what they feed thier kids with..... What do we do. We had a debate about this is our bio class we were discussing drug laws and antibiotic resistance- which is another thing all together.

I know that. My mom had drugs that cost thousands of dollars when she had cancer. Our health care helped, but not a lot or nearly enough. But Universal Health Care isn't the answer. Once they spend a certain amount on you, they reserve the right to stop paying. Because they can only spend however much money is coming from the taxpayers.

It's not that part that worries me. It's the fact that the government will then be justified in controlling various aspects of our health lives. People will likley have to consult the government before doing high risk activities like sky diving or bungee jumping or snowboarding. Anytime that something is deemed hazardous (or even potentially hazardous e.g., cellphones c. 1997) the government will be more likely to reactionarily make it illegal. Universal Healthcare will stifle the business world and encourage those monopolies that the government supports with so much pork and legislation.

What is the solution, then? You say a universal health system (which doesn't necessarily have to be government run) is a bad thing, but BECAUSE the insurance companies can do whatever they want, healthcare isn't freely accessible. It also increases the cost of healthcare to those that don't have insurance. So what's your solution?

I have none at the moment. The healthcare system needs to be revamped, but the government doesn't need to be controlling it exclusively.
