Just so you know, I've decided to join Scyze in what he terms The Reality Project.
October 12, 2007
Actually, Friday was a rather nice day. School was a half day, so everyone at school was rather cheerful to begin with. Even those like me who end up at school before the sun has even risen. I had already decided to try this Reality Project, so I kept my eyes open, so to speak. What really came to my attention was how disconnected from reality I am. Reality, as I've heard preached, involves a slowly dying world that is overrun with a bipedal viral infestation that pollutes the air and water and exterminates other life forms simply because these life forms exist. Reality is supposed to involve going to college, paying exorbitant prices for a degree so you can enter the corporate business world, work hard to pay off your debts, marry and have children so continuing the cycle. The other pathway is skipping college, getting a blue-collar job and never earn more than minimum wage. That is the reality I have heard.
So there are two types of hummingbirds on an theoretical island. One type has shorter flat bills, the other has long and slender bills. During a cold season, the flowers the shorter billed hummingbirds rely on die out, but the flowers only the long billed could eat from survive. Thus the long billed humminbirds become dominant. Evolution over time, right? But where did the gene for long bills even come from? Did the long billed/short billed split occur recently or over time? Why did the shorter flowers die out? Why was the temperature so unnaturally cold to begin with? What are the reasons behind the evolution?
Everything is so digitalized. We can't get through the day without our computers, our cell phones, our television, our radio, ipods, mp3s, and video games. We use them so often we are probably dependent on the minor radiation that our computers produce. They say the world has gotten smaller, but its really just as large. We don't really know that much more. Sure, we can cure diseases that could decimate a population before. Instead, we get far more dangerous mutations. Is this going to change? Almost definitely not. Which really, is rather saddening. There is so much beauty in nature, so many untapped possibilities in people, in nature, in the universe. We spend it obsessing over looks, money, and the overwhelming urge to be right.
Thats what I think of reality right now.

Despite what you'd said, it seems like you have had some very good revelations already. The more you look, the more you'll find! Just keep looking.
