Japan had this same Constitution effective since May 3rd, 1946.
Yes. They got this new Constitution after the World War II.Ok, in Japan, this Constitution is very controvertial now, especially, after the War with Iraq started.
OK, Chapter 2 Article 9 in Japanese Constitution says "Aspiring sincerely to an international peace
forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation
and threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes."
And it also says, "In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces,
as well as other war potential, will never be maintained.
The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized."

Why is this controvertial? Ok, the reason why is Japan has so-called "self-defense force."
This is like a military force of Japan. I know, it's kinda against Constitution.
However, Japan thinks that it is important to have this force because Japan is close to
North Korea....
anyway, there are so many politicians (include the Prime Minister) want to change this article to have an army.
Sounds ridiculos for me. I really like Japanese Constitution of declaring peace especially when I consider about
all the victims of the World War II. I really don't want Japan to go over the wars again and I am proud of
Japanese constitution of declaring not to have any arm force as a Japanese living in the United States.
I just wanted to express my opinion of not changing the article from Japanese Constitution.
If we change this article, there will be many criticisms from neighbor countries for sure.
And I also do not want Japan's neighbor countries such as Korea or China to get involved in
the Japanese governmental policy and want to maintain the peaceful relationships among these countries.
Thus, Japanese goverment should not have any arm force nor send it to Iraq... (no way)
And be proud of a nation, which declares not to have any arm force, and lead the world to
the peaceful enviornment.
Thank you so much for your interest to read.
