School is for learning

There has been huge controversy about religion in schools. Conservatives say to take down the wall while liberals are requesting to build the wall higher. I want to know why religion needs to be in schools anyways. Isn't that why we have churches? If I wanted to learn about Jesus and God I would go to church for that. I go to school to learn about English, Spanish, Government, Sociology, Precalculas, and Oceanography. Religion has nothing to do with any of those classes. We can read books in English that aren't the bible. There are plenty of books like that out there. Spanish class is for learning another language not learning about God. Government is to learn about American policies, not church policies. What are we going to do with religion in precalculas? Measure our bibles? And unless someone is going to provide evidence that would blow my mind about God creating the ocean, then I don't want to hear about it in my oceanography class either. The thing is, religion has nothing to do with what we learn about in school. None of our classes revolve around it so it shouldn't be necessary.
Another thing is that if you allow religion in school which ones would you allow? What would happen to the children who have a different religion yet are forced to take part in another religion's activity? Your response is probably, "Oh well they can just sit out during those activities." They shouldn't have to because religion shouldn't be allowed in schools in the first place. And why should we isolate them because they are different? It might even make them more picked on because it shows that they are different from the other kids. This would make a whole new prejudice in school.
If you really want to go to a church affiliated school that badly, go to a private school. Or maybe get home schooled. Or maybe go to church more.

A choice. Therefore, religious classes should be a choice. I'd say, have the classes available, but not mandatory to take; like dance and theatre arts.

Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.

Religion is also a part of history. It has impacted nearly every subject known to man. Without learning about religion, we can't have a full understanding about people's beliefs, culture, or system. The Ancient Egyptians based their empire on divine right as did King Louis XIII (and other kings).

There is no such thing as "I don't know" in this world.

I agree with what you say. If you go to Toys-R-Us dont expect to find lawn mowers. Its not what they offer, and if it's not what you want, dont go there. If you want a lawn mower, go to the john deere store. Dont force a topic into school that doesn't go there. Sure if you want to offer a class about the bible or religons, that is fine. But don't expect children to learn your personal perspective and how it ties into everyday life. Invite them to Sunday School if you want to talk about that. Sure, if you wanna pray or read your bible within the school walls, feel free to do so, but dont make your views an educational objective in the classroom.
