Tips for a Healthier you!

Let's just assume everyone would die from medical conditions rather than an accident or murder. Although worrying about your health is good at the earliest age possiable many people don't think about preventive matters. They start worrying when a condition develops. Of course some of you smart people worry about preventive matters already which is a good thing. The rest of you are not dumb just need to start thinking about ways to prevent things before they happen rather than suffering later.

We all know some medical conditions can not be prevented and come on us at random point's in our life. Although genetics play a large role on what diseases and illnesses you will obtain some can be prevented. Also by taking precautions you can also stop the progress of diseases and illnesses.

A great fact many of you may not know is that your bones rebuild themselves entirely every 7 years. This is until a person is 30 years old. It is therefore important to start "getting" vitamin D along with calcium supplements at age 30. Even if you are younger you may want to get Vitamin D and take calcium supplements if you don't recieve enough in you diet. In the previous statement I said "getting" Vitamin D. Vitamin D is 100% absorbed through the skin by the sun. Supplements are ok but do not absorb 100% like the sun. Vitamin D is needed for calcium absorbtion. 10 mintues in the sun provides enough Vitamin D for the day.

Many young people do not think about health most of the time. Like many young people I used to think I could just worry about my health when I was older when everything fell apart so to speak. After my mom died the phrase she instilled into me finally registered with my brain. "Take care of yourself." Many young people assume since they are young they should not worry. This assumption is very wrong. The younger the better. The younger you look as you get older the better, and the longer you will live with out a slou of health problems.

Tip 1-Skin Care

-Sun worshippers listen please. Although the sun is a good source of vitamin D try your best by not getting burned. That dark tan you have from years in the sun might be great now, but you will be more prone to getting skin cancer and it is 99% likely you will look like shit. (excuse the bluntness) wear sunscreen. If you don't care for the lotion they now have a neat spray. This way you can get a gradual tan (if you are in the sun alot) and decrease your risk of cancer and looking 60 when you are 40.

-Wash your face. it is important to wash your face at least once a day. If you skip a day oh well. The best thing I have found is an Antibacterial wash. This strips oil out of the skin. If you have oily skin. Dove has been recommended by dermotologist. It have 1/4 moisturizer. I have very oily skin and dove doesn't break me out or make my skin greasy like most moisturizers do.

Oily skin/Sensitive- Find an Antibacterial wash or I also use the Clearasil Ultra Pads. This takes the oil out of your skin. Then to put moisture back into your skin without making it oily Dove is the best. My parents have used it an they have aged very well. Don't ask me why. If you have sensitive skin use Dove Sensitive. It is great for men too because it has no scent.

Dry Skin- Just stick to the Dove then. I am not trying to force Dove on anyone, but it really works wonders for all skin types.

Tip 2 Variety

- Leading a seditary life can cause you to have an early death. As of now I can't lead by example because I haven't been exercising lately, but I plan to. This has been proven on my mother's side of the family. Her dad, and mother did not exercise and died young. Get off your butt and make a commitment. (this includes myself)

-Find something you enjoy. The more you enjoy an activity the more likely you are to do it and not procrationate. Combine cardio such as; jump roping, running, fast walking, or aerobics with strength training. Building muscle burns fat. Also while you are losing weight you are toning the muscles. They are least likely to sage from the weight loss. Lifting weights is good and so are exercise bands yo can buy them at walmart for 6 dollars.

-Variety is key. Don't totally cut out the foods you love, but limit them. If you totally deprive yourself from it you may binge on it later. Add vegs and fruits that you like. This is hard for some people including myself because I am picky. Cut down on fat. Light foods have less fat, and calories. You will get used to them after awhile. Same with meats. Try to look for meats like Laura's Lean beef. It has hardly any fat.

-Try to at least do 30 minutes of vigorous exercise at least 4 days a week. If you are busy cut it into intervals. 10 minutes here 10 minutes there. This can add years to your life, help you maintain, and lose weight, and improve stress, anxiety and depression.

Hope this helps!

I think commitment is the key word. If you can make a commitment to yourself and your loved ones to take on a more healthy lifestyle, then you must do it. If you say you'll do it, then do it.

My grandfather as he was dying also pleaded with me to take care of myself. It's just careless to do otherwise.

Rock on Dani.

It really does take commitment. My problem is i procrastinate. I just need to start doing things and not making excuses. I believe it is very important and I'm glad your grandpa instilled the same value into yo as well.

Another very good blog. You sure do know a lot about the human body. Yeah most people believe that their health is not at risk. But when they recieve thier first heart attack , stroke, high blood pressure, or high cholestoral, some still ignore it. Then they wonder why they have to take so many pills for the rest of their life. Good blog.
