It seems more and more like the country is going down the path of no return. We have become so self-absorbed that we no longer care about our image and the effects our actions will have on the world. How can we possibly believe that by imposing our systems of government and beliefs onto other countries will make them successful? Look at us. Our economy is on the verge of recession, people are losing their homes, young men and women are dying in a war that may never end, and we still believe ourselves to be the greatest nation on the globe. Countries all over the world are suffering from our economic crisis, proof of how interconnected and dependent countries are upon each other. This dependency should make us more responsible, more conscious of what we do. There cannot be this air of haughtiness, we must regain our modest and true way of life. That which the country was built upon by the founding fathers. In a country that started out as a place for people looking for an escape from the ugly oppression and intolerance of their homelands, we sure have become narrow-minded in the greater scheme of things. I guess I always believed that to be great you had to be successful in all areas and admired by your peers. But like everything else, things change.
