In the up and coming world of exit exams and standardized testing, are teachers teaching, or are they teaching to the test. The pressure upon schools to acheive better and better stardardized test scores is leaving and stripping teachers of their teaching power. No longer do teachers teach what is relevant to your life, but what is relevant to the stadarized test. think of the last time you read a book, or a teacher taught a lesson. What did they say. Something in the realm of, "This will be on the next state test," or "We are reading this to enhance your knowledge of the world." More often than not it is the first. It may seem that the teacher loves teachinga book or certain lesson, but next time your teaches something new, ask them if this is needed for state and/or national testing. You will probably be surprised to find out that it is for the test, not because you will use this later in life. Are teachers teaching or are they teaching for a test?

I went to high school in Texas. Just about every year we had to take standardized tests. At least a month before the test teachers started to teach us things that might be on the test. As I got older I wondered why we had to stop our normal routine just to teach to a test. Everything we need to know for these tests should be in the normal curriculum.
You make a great point. I agree with you! I was persuing a teaching degree, but the NCLB act was too ridiculous to want any part of. With test scores being so crucial in school funding and so on, yeah they are teaching to the test!

I agree with you, but at the same time you do run into your great teachers and school..
at my school, things are definitely meshed into the curriculum and I certainly have teachers who are amazing and do not care about the tests.
I guess it all depends.
