The Morning After Pill
So, ladies, guys... you 'did the deed' last night, and oops! Forgot to wear a condom, or take your birth control... we may have a problem here. Hello, morning after pill!
What the morning after pill really does is flood a girls body with hormones that cause her to start her period, thus flushing her system. I know many people who are anti-abortion that are pro-the morning after pill. This doesn't necessarily make sense to me though. Technically, if you think that you should just let things run their course, or take consequences for your actions, wouldn't this just be a lesser version of an abortion?
True, just because you have sex doesn't mean the egg will be fertilized at all, or within a few hours-a few days(I believe) afterwards. So, in another sense it's not really a lesser version of an abortion. However, it could possibly be escaping the consequences. So, isn't the concept pretty much the same? Escape the risks of a mistake you made.
I realize I'm also refering to myself here. I'm totally for the morning after pill, but am a bit skeptical on the whole abortion issue. I think it should be allowed, but only within reason. IE: cases of incest, rape, or serious threat to the mother's life. I do think you should accept the consequences of your actions.
In any case, I suppose this started differently than it ended. What are your opinions and why?

It should be freely given as needed. A friend of mine had to take one the other day; the condom broke. She is a college student and not at all ready for the responsibility of a child. She was beside herself with anxiety up until the very minute--and afterwards--that she took Plan B. It was not her fault the condom broke, and she is not a horrible person for wanting to engage in sexual acts in which she takes precautions for.
Besides, the morning after pill prevents fertilization of the egg, and in some cases prevents the egg from sticking to the uterine walls. There's really nothing forming there just yet. If it's considered a crime to take Plan B, then it would be a crime to take any type of birth control--whether it be hormonal or barrier.
I think that the morning after pill should be available.
People can choose to take it or not -- and availability is the way to allow people to make up their own minds.
In all cases of rape or incest, the morning after pill should be given to the women if she decides to take it.
Above and beyond that the morning after pill could be seen as a way to stop abortion if looked at the right way. If the mother or father does not want the child than they might end up getting an abortion after the embryo has begun to gain human characteristics. The morning after pill is given before the egg really begins to divide. Therefore, it has no human characteristics. It is much safer than abortion. I respect the views of people who believe in not interfering but maybe this is an option that should be studied into a bit more.
What about the situation in which the pill fails and the mother is not aware of the pregnancy within 72 hours?

You were totally going from one subject to a completely different subject within the same paragraph. I don't know how to respond.
I tend to do that... my mind bops from thing to thing without warning and it's all connected in some way... it just doesn't make sense to a lot of other people. I can have a bit of difficulty neatly organizing my thoughts. Sorry.

I tend to think consequence is a needed result of any action whether a good consequence or a bad one. Strip away consequence and devalue the very action. I'm not totally against the morning after pill or birth control products, but I also think engaging in sex is indeed a voluntary thing (I of course am strictly speaking in the context of completely consensual sex), and if you're engaging in a process to reproduce life, if life is the result...well, duh. To say one lit a match and got burnt despite safety precautiouns, then complain about the unfairness of it shouldn't have been lighting the match in the first place, the only difference is sex is more enjoyable than lighting matches (although I do love the smell, of matches that is) and people want excuses.
I think abortion ought to be available for all cases. What do you say to someone who did all the right things, and then because of an accident, as described in an above comment, happened to get pregnant anyway? As far as I know, there is no birth control method that is 100% effective except for abstinence. What do you say to a couple in the unlucky minority who say, does not have the financial means to provide for a baby? Is it better for that baby to grow up deprived of a good life simply for the chance at life?
Regarding your questions about fertility, a woman is most fertile the 24 hours after she ovulates, but fertilization depends on whether the sperm reaches the egg at a viable time (the couple of days before ovulation and day of). However, cycles can also be irregular, which is I do not believe the rhythm method of birth control is a sound one. Perhaps instead of focusing on banning abortions, this country ought to focus more on educating its population about the most efficient methods of birth control, and providing more informative reproductive education for preventing the need for an abortion. Many people, I believe especially in Bible Belt areas, are simply uninformed about their bodies and about modes of prevention, but continue to be sexually active despite that. This miseducation is the real crisis, not abortion.
i dont agree with it. you shoudl be more responsiable
First of all, please use spell check if you have a hard time remembering which letter comes next.
Second of all, define responsible. Does responsible mean never having sex? I assume you're referring to the young, unmarried population. What about the rest of us? Can I not have sex with my husband except for mating purposes, just because contraceptives may not work?
