Each and every individual either calls for an increase for minimum wage or not. Or do they fall in between? In my opinion, I am not confused, but rather undecided. Think about it and recall on the status of the majority of people who actually have jobs that pay minimum wage. The people with the paying minimum wage jobs consist of young teenagers, high school drop outs, and the what'chu-call-it interrupted individuals. A lot of times, for working teenagers, I believe that our parents or guardians are the ones who should be taking care of us with the money that they make while we devote ourselves entirely to school and education. The "side equipment" that teenagers call for their entertainment is very optional, it almost hurts. The only actual necessities we need are food, decent hygiene equipment, the school expenses, a nice-working cell phone for emergencies, and no doubt, the clothes on our back at reasonable prices. Those things are not so expensive for parents or guardians that it'll cause a student body to pursue in a job already at 14 - 17 years old.
I'm 17 years old and I'm part-time employed as a cashier at a grocery store, working 4-5 days a fortnight (as to my choice). My mother is 50 years old and unemployed (with a small side-job of crafts) while my father works at a steel factory for machinery operations and he pays the bills and insurances. His job is kind of adequate, but I still have to buy the groceries for a household of 9 (including myself). I'm in a situation stuck between school or work. As stated earlier, I only work 4-5 days a fortnight because working hours are crucial to my study time. Is it comprehensive to make assumptions on my debate on teenagers working and attending school at the same time, dealing with minimum wage?
Then there are the high school drop outs and the what'chu-call-it interrupted individuals who receive the pay of minimum wage. I've always believed and held the knowledge that people who come in between interruptions or conflicting elements may pick up their feet again. For drop outs and even those who come in between, there are resolutions of all sorts. Scholarships, Grants, and Student Loans are always offered and provided for those who decide to further their current wage through the education they pursue in.
My parents, on the other hand, are elder Southeast Asian immigrants who are not too fluent in English or the customs, which in turn, they have the inability to further this "education" concept. For every situation, it is very different and in exchange, I conclude that minimum wage should be best considered and classified through the status of situation an individual is in; therefore, I fall in between. I question then, what another individual believes in.
