2 days ago a home in my neighborhood caught fire. a four year old boy died. the thing is this child would most likely still be alive if the house was equipped with the proper amount of fire alarms. they had 1 fire alarm in the basement, and by the time the heat and smoke reached the basement it was too late.
my dad did a project in college where he got names of elderly people that didn't have smoke detectors and with the help of the fire department he was able to get around fifty fire alarms and install them in the homes.
some people have smoke alarms but no batteries or dead batteries in them. the batteries should be replaced and tested as often as needed or once a year. these alarms can save lives
i saw on news that you can install sprinkler systems in your home, i think that is something that would be a good investment.
