Pride in your Heritage.

It seems to happen quite a bit that a person gets persecuted for their pride in their heritage.  Just because of a few bad things that happened with your ancestors you are forced by society to forget your heritage or get discriminated by it.

My heritage is mostly from the South and because of this I get called a racist because of the whole slave issue.  Many people do not understand why the South was in the Civil War.  I have written a blog about it in which explains the South’s stance in the Civil War.  I have done plenty of research to see whether my beliefs on it were right or wrong and for the most part it was right.

A lot of people say to forget about the Civil War but Southern Pride is really not based off of the Civil War.  Granted it had some affect on the heritage but it is not all about that.  It was about standing up for what they believe in much like
America did in the Revolutionary War.  The South wanted to separate from the “authority” figure that ran them just like America and the
British Empire.

All I really am trying to say is do not persecute someone because they take pride in their heritage.  They were born into it just like blacks were born black.  We have to live with it and it is our choice to take pride into it whether it was considered “bad” or “good”.

I agree, good post very interesting. The South did choose to be in the civil war though, but I don't think you should have to put that behind if you want to remember it. I just think a relapse of certain groups may not be the best thing.

Thank you.

This is all that I really meant in my racial type blogs. Sorry if any of them offended you but I just wanted to point out a few key things I noticed. And I know some of them I should have gone a different route but it is in the past and I can't change that.

One can definitely be proud of their Heritage but still recognize the bad things. I'm a Southern girl and half Native American to boot. I understand the importance of heritage. But, there is a difference in being proud of where you come from and taking in pride in the bad things your ancestors did. I'm not trying to be rude or hateful or snide or anything else, but I think a lot of the issues that people take with you particularly is that you come across as if you are proud that we ended up in a Civil War because we didn't think it was fair that our government could take our property (aka human beings) away from us and that your Southern ancestors owned slaves. You may not feel that way, it's just how you come across. I think that is what people are taking issue with, not with the fact that you are proud of your heritage.

"Reality is not for the faint of heart."

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."

All they had to do is ask and I would of explained instead of jumping to conclusions though. That is why I never really tried fixing things because they never asked.

I can't believe that one guy on this site is trying to put me down for supporting every part of my heritage..it is pathetic. I can't help that my dads side is Irish, and I can't help that my moms side of the family is from the south.

Why would you want to "help" that your dad's family is Irish and that your mom's family is from the south? My dad is a very strong Southern redneck and I since being in school in the north, I've learned how much I've learned about being proud of where I'm from from him. It's not about wanting slaves or anything like that. I love the snow and the cold weather, but I'm always ready to tell people that I'm not from around here. In addition, my mom and dad had families all came from other countries (as in, I have no Native American (or whatever the pc term) is in me). I might not be proud of everything that the leaders/other people in those countries ever did, but I'm not going to say that my family has no connection to those countries. I'm proud of who I am and where I'm from.

That wasn't exactly the point I was going for. That I wanted to not be Irish, or Italian, or Southern--I want to be it all. I just find it amazing how this one guy can sit there and tell me that I am wrong because I support every part of my heritage, I have NEVER met anyone as extremely messed up as this guy.
