American Values

...or lack thereof.

As racism has declined a new threat has emerged to a certain group of people. It's called homophobia. Contrary to popular belief, homophobia is not only the "fear of homosexuals", it's the fear and/or contempt of homosexuals. This leads to violence, slurs and hate of those that are gay. It's the red-hot burning passion, a zealous hate for those that are so inclined to love someone of the same sex.

ja ur right gay people make me sick. gays shouldnt even be in this world i wish they all get shot

It seems like gays are slowly and sickeningly dominating the world... we gotta stop this...

Yep your special prize is a close range shotgun blast to the head. It will be like gettin rid of a cheap horse than can no longer run. Fuckin gay emos.

L0L i remember in my last highschool we seen these to cupcakes making out so we took these faggots to an alley tied them to a pole in a empty parking lot shoved a big rolled up news paper in their ass and we lighted that shit of fire then we farted in they face and left them

These are just examples of some of the quotes found on various public Myspace groups. It sickens me how people my age, and younger, can be saying these things. We learn in history classes about the Ku Klux Klan and everyone gasps, "How can people do that?" Yet, here we are, 2006 and we're still practicing discrimination, still practicing hate. Gay bashing is found everywhere. Gays are accosted, both physically and verbally daily. In the Land of the Free, this is a sad sight to behold.

People fear expressing themselves, coming out of the closet so to say, because they fear the reactions of those they love. Will they accept me or just discard me like any other piece of trash? Worries and doubt flicker through their minds, so these people, fearing backlash, pretend to be something they're not, living a life they're not meant to. Is this how we want to live? Prompting fear and uncertainty to run through people, transforming others into someone they're not. I know that's not what I want to do, that's not how I would want someone I loved to live. Sure, a person may not agree with their lifestyles, but that does not give anyone the right to physical or verbal abuse.

Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I digress. I'm sick and tired of seeing posts on internet sites saying "kill all the fags." Sick of hearing in the news about the latest gay bashing. Sick of seeing my gay friend huddled on his bed crying after yet another verbal abuse. It's got to end.

People's animosity towards gay people disgusts me as well, but often I see gay people using their sexual orientation as a shield, as though they should be treated special. This is just as disgusting in my opinion. Everyone needs to be treated equally and act equally, that is what America was built on.

...

affirmative action, what?

i don't see gay people doing it nearly as much as others.

there's a difference in wanting to be treated "special" and wanting to be treated with decency and respect.

I'm personally sick of the straight men who are like "well I'm ok with them as long as they don't hit on me." Honestly, I doubt that they are running around after people like you.

WAIT! NO, it's a huge conspiracy...there is actually a large gay army of well dressed, color coordinated men running around after...YOU! You, heterosexual hottest man of the year winner! RUN, HIDE, THEY WILL CONVERT YOU!

Come on...I seriously don't understand how you can possibly be that vain to think that all these gay men are trying to hit on you.

Yeah, agreed. The other people that bother me are the ones that seem to think being gay is contagious. I know people that won't even be around gay people and that really bothers me. I mean seriously, what is there problem? Are they that insecure about their sexuality?

And on the subject of the gay men hitting on straight men. Even if a gay man were to hit on someone straight, how hard is it to say, I'm sorry I'm not really into guys...or something else polite along those lines.
