My, what an expensive hobby

In elementary school, I loved Art. I mean, I really, really loved Art. I tried my hardest each time I had class, and my work even got chosen to be displayed in the Capitol Art Exhibit in Atlanta. After I finished my art classes in highschool, I fell out of the habit, and out of the hobby I used to spend so much time pursuing.

I recently went to an art store with my friend. I guess when I was a child, I didn't require any intense art supplies or else I just got them all from school. These new, improved art supplies were more tha expensive. I could have spent an entire paycheck on a canvas, a brush set, and a few colors of paint. My friend kept repeating, "I'm not a serious enough artist for this ___." Then, we saw a woman with a motorized wheelchair and one arm come down the aisle picking out painting supplies. She spoke to us about her passion and how although it was expensive, you can't put a price on something that you love. I thought about this and cam to the conclusion that I WILL take up art again. So what if I can't paint like a professional, if it is fulfilling and brings me joy, then it's worth it. If it allows me to use creative expression, and put something on a canvas that makes sense to me, even if no one else gets the same impression, I'm going to do it. I may never be professional, but art is self-satisfying.

My brother went to MIAD for his freshman year of college and my parents were completely overwhelmed by the expense of his supplies. He got a full scholarships, but the supplies were over a thousand dollars for the first semester. He needed and air brush and air compressor for one class, brushes and paint for another, ink for one and software. Then he got kicked out. They were pretty pissed, after spending all that on supplies he doesn't use anymore!
