December 21,2012 {Doomsday?}

Misha925's picture

I am sure many of you heard that December 21,2012 is going to be doomsday. This is the day that they predicted the world will end. It has been said that the Mayan's calendar ends on December 12,2012 and that is when the world will end. They were pretty close when they predicted the lunar cycle so now they are believed to have predicted the end of the world. So today we only have 4 years and 283 days left on Earth? I really don't know what to believe. It is also predicted that the Earth will be frozen for 15,000 years. Everything deadly has been predicted to happen in 2012. There is supposed to be Sun storms and a deadly super volcano. All of this is really scaring me. Do you believe that the end of the world will be in the year 2012? Why is this happening so soon from now and we are just being aware of it? Are the Mayans always right? Why 2012? I had my whole future planned out but I have lived a fufilling life but I would have at least thought that the world would end when I was about 70 years old. What do you think about December 21,2012. Will you be prepared for it?

The world does not end on 12/12/2012. It is the end of an era, nothing is going to happen. The only thing that will happen is that the time required for one complete cycle of precession of the equinoxes, will end and another one will begin. The people who say the Mayan calender ends on that day are wrong. We've found calendars that go all the way to 3652.

You'll be dead in 15,000 years so don't worry about the Earth freezing. I have no idea why or how intelligent people can buy into this Mayan calendar bullshit. You bet I am pissed off, no one trys to look this up, everyone takes it at face value and they end up looking completely stupid. You really need to research this stuff before you decide the it is true and stary worrying about it.

Do we always need a lot of fear in our lives? Why worry about it? So what if it does happen?

I always thought it was good to live for today anyway. As Mike Ness put it:
"So if you please take this moment
Try if you can make it last
Don't think about no future and just forget about the past
and make it last.
Reach For the Sky, 'cause tomorrow may never come."

Doomsday sounds like a great excuse for a theme party! I love theme parties! I'll have it in the bike room of our building, which looks like a bomb shelter. We'll drink wop out of giant garbage cans and we'll eat canned goods by lantern light. The dress code will be hazmat.

You've got the job! In order for the theme to be authentic, though, you'll have to bring a generator for your equipment.

We have parties in the woods, so we use 2 small groups that supply just enough juice to create amazing atmospheres in which we linger throughout the night...lol

It’s fun and no trouble with neighbors..... will get back in touch to go through details when approaching this wonderful shift....

Ooo, almost forgot, I don’t charge anything, only sympathy...

That does sound like a great theme party night. I'm not entirely sure where I'll be in 2012, but I'll go ahead and throw a maybe in the RSVP.

We need to sort out a location first! Any suggestions?

My bomb shelter bike storage room! It's entirely concrete and depressing looking. And totally nuke-proof!

What if the guest list goes over a hundred?

I will need some space to put my PA system… we need a full bar and some food too, we need a mirror ball and some bathrooms.

Apart from that we will need trashcans and some automatic weapons to keep intruders of site.
Maybe the automatic weapons are a bit too much, anyhow, maybe all the one’s outside the nuke shelter turn into zombies at 00:00h and would probably want to eat us all!!!

ALIVE!!!!!

I posted the invitation. Feel free to make suggestions. What about party favors? What will be useful to the last remaining survivors?

I did not create this blog for joking purposes!! It was to inform people about this date and to see how they felt about it. If you want to throw some crazy masquerade, go ahead and do that elsewhere. It's people like you who use progressive U as an advantage to make fun of blogs. This is not what this website is for. You could get flagged for doing this but you probably don't care anyway.

We're not making fun of your blog! We're planning a party. You inspired us to think creatively. What could be bad about that? you should feel good about it!

And we did move it to another post, when it appeared to be the only commenting that was happening. And anyway, whenever we comment on here about the party, it bumps your post up to the top of the active threads list, which is good for your read count. Without our comments, this one would have faded into obscurity by now.

Thanks for clearing that up. It just hurts me when people don't take my blogs seriously. You might as well keep ur party here now that I know the truth...

This was all meant in fun. We can't do anything about death- it's going to happen. Even if we did know our exact time and date of death, would it change anything? Would you do something differently?

I think that's the issue. I wouldn't change a thing. I'm happy. So are you going to change your life according to the idea that human existence will end on 12/12/2012? Do you realize that many people including scientist Sir Isaac Newton and 7th Day Adventist church founder William Miller have also set dates for the Apocalypse? Even Hitler had Apocalyptic tones.

I don’t believe anyone can prepare himself against anything which comes through our lives, pain and joy are part of our everyday presence amongst the living. The way we handle pain and joy is what defines us in order to perceive the beauty that lies in the middle.

We all push forward the memories of the ones that are sharing our pain and joy, therefore it is important to try and learn to embrace the physical moment of the now, a moment of which we ignore the true beginning and cannot predict it’s ending.

In life you “are” meant to live with what you are fearing to lose regardless of what lies ahead, for its not the end of the world that will ever erase the time you are or have been.

What is seventy years when it has been filled with fear until and to continue with regret after having reached this mindset that carries no importance while realizing having missed out all of the beauty.

To unite and party is the best thought one can carry for this date in order to create a memory that will linger throughout eternity!

Like Sonja said, would you do something differently?

You are part of the reason it came to life and like it has been nicely put and said by Ediblewoman, none of this was meant to bring hurt, a party like this caries a deeper meaning which we commonly share, this blog will never fade into obscurity....

I have often thought that it would end on this day also but then I really thought about it. The mayan calendar ends on that date but that doesn't mean that it will be the end of the world just because of the calendar ending. I used to worry just like you do but I don't anymore. The main thing I believe is the world will end itself by people.

I finally got a person's opinion on what I wrote without them using harsh and vulgar language. This PEOPLE is what I have been asking for. An OPINION! Thank you so much for being one of the very few people who gave me an opinion. Now I feel that my blog wasn't a waste. We need more bloggers like you.

Just as a general FYI... people at ProU tend to be laid back about things and like to joke and think outside the proverbial blogging box. There is nothing wrong with that. I've seen quite a few very interesting and diverting discussions come about because of joking... it's part of the fun of being in the ProgressiveU community. Where else can you discuss the important topics one moment and plan a party the next? It's not meant as an insult to you or your blog when it happens... it's just the nature of the community. If you would prefer to not have the jokes, you can specify as much in your blog and most are respectful of that request and will take it elsewhere. But... don't give up on the side conversations that happen as a result of your topics. They can often be just as enlightening as sticking to the subject at hand.

Thanks for informing me. I like to joke around too but in my blog, I asked for opinions and that really wasn't what I got.

I don't like confrontation and there is no since in using vulgar language to get a point across unless some one is verbally attacking you. I am very open-minded and can see from both points of view. I am very laid back. Alot of people don't see why I am like that, but I would rather imagine that I am in that person's mind thinking how they are thinking. I know it sounds strange but It works out better. and yes more people should try this....yet alot of people are selfish and set in their beliefs. You may have recieved rude comments because people may have just been sick of hearing about the topic from the people they work with, go to school with or whatever. But arguements don't really go anywhere....because people are narrow minded.

I am here to inform and help:
