On may 1, 2006, thousands of illegal immigrants, not only in new York City, but in other cities as well, protested against the proposed bills for immigration reform, and so forth that are being discussed by the Bush Administration. One thing that puzzled me, personally, was how this large group of illegal immigrants was able to get a "license", if you may, to protest legally.
Many of them had rallied in advocacy of roles that would grant them amnesty...perhaps they believe they are the confederates and the United States is engaged in a civil war similar to that under the Lincoln Administration?The problem with granting amnesty is this: a country is divided by the type of government it has esablished, within the borders that it has established. By crossing borders illegally (as in not obtaining the right documentation, etc etc etc) these immigrants are violating the law. Hence, my referring to them as "illegal" immigrants." If the U.S. government decides to grant them amnesty once they'r ealready on U.S. soil, that would be the equivalent of taking an eraser, and erasing the U.S. borders ad boundaries on a map or globe. By granting A,nesty, we would be endorsing illegal immigrants, and saying, "hey, no reaosn to do paperwork. Just come here, and you'll be safe once you're there."
What kind of nation would the U.S be if it begins to make every illegal immigrant legal? It wouldn't be a nation at all. It would be a pool of people from all over the world, just living on the same soil. Soon, when enough peple come her,e we will be overpopulated, and may have to extend our borders. Part of Mexico wil become the supposed "United States." Hey, why not Canada while we're at it as well?

Where did you read or hear that one needs a "license" to protest?,that kind of destroy the whole purpose of protesting and the whole freedom of speech.Imaging how it would have been if rosa parks hasn't protested by sitting on the front of the bus,or if the sit-ins hasn't happened,what about the civil rigths?.

Anyway you have to keep in mind that not only illegal immigrants were participants of the protest,but as well as immigrants and people that support them.Also theses illegal immigrants do pay taxes and do not even get refund,many work with a very low salary and do not receive any benefits.Believe me they are not crossing the border just to give trouble but to give a better chance to their families, and because they know they will get a job,People easily hire them for cheap labor and they get them jobs that are hard specially on the farms.America has always welcomed immigrants going all the way back to the mayflower,why not now? and if you are worry about overpopulation .Not everyone will come to USA.I'm not saying they should reward illegal immigrants maybe the requirements to get a green card,work visa or anything to cross legally,there could be a fine, a backgroung check to see if they done good.
The USA is already a pool full of people from everywhere,That's what I like about it.

I have friends that are from everywhere and i have learned alot from them.
First of all, ANY ONE in the United States HAS freedom of speech, as "ptitefille" mentioned. I am a person who has struggled in life and will not permit anyone to insult our motives for entering a country ''illegally.'' The AUTHENTIC reason immigrants cross the border (from any country, not JUST Mexico) is to get a better life, not for fun!! The whites/Anglo-Saxons fled from England to/for what?! To GET A BETTER LIFE AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! USA is a nation of ALL IMMIGRANTS, whether anyone likes it or NOT!! The closest to this country are the Mexicans and all the Latinos (canadians too)!! African-Americans were brought UNWILLINGLY to this continent! REMEMBER, WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS AND AMERICANS (NORTHERN, CENTRAL OR SOUTHERN AMERICANS)!!!!!
I know they're trying to help their families, and i know they're not crossing borders to cause trouble. My parents are immigrants, as am I.
Also, I don't remember exactly where I read it, but you do not to fill out certain 'paperwork" to protest. Otherwise, it's just an illegal "putsch." I think that's part of the reason that the elderly woman who marched in front of the White House not so long go (what did they call it? Grannies on parade? something along thos elines) were fined and jailed.
I'm in no way trying to say that we should blockall immigrants from coming in, I just don't think that it would be the best idea in the world to grant them a legal status once they get here.
You do need to ask permission from the city to protest in some cities. Either way the reason they were allowed to protest is because the Gov doesn’t enforce illegal immigration laws very much. ( It varies state to state) A funny thing about this whole argument is that people seem to be take it as people against illegal immigration are against immigration as a whole, I think they are against illegal immigration not immigration as a whole.

hey I just got somethings to say think about this. this story is repeating over on and on and no one seems to realize what is happening. Everyone is getting hurt not just immigrants. maybe people dont understand me now but when the things come out many are going to regret what happen. well I'm not rasices I'm actually an immigrant in this country the only thing we want is to make a difference. and if they dont want us here why are they going to take more of our country Mexico to build the boarder I think this is an act of racisam well no one is stopping them so called "Americans" from coming to our country this is so called a free country right so what does it affect the Americans we're actually doing thier jobs or some would call it thier leftovers. and thats right we are doing thier leftovers we are getting what they dont want no more even if we dont get payed a lot but we need the money and many dont see this life here is nothing compare to other countries not just Mexico but there's is Africa especially Ethiopia it is so poor many people that live there dont know whats a clean bath:shower:water they are so poor that they dont have water they go thristiy for days but its not just Africa but Mexico it is poor to some parts of Mexico becuse many people say oh they have money look they got Cancun Mexico yes it is rich but look at the other side of Mexico Morrelia Michuacan oh yeah thats where dont even know what is fun you spend a lot of time in the fields and then school thats why many hispanics dont have or finish school why because they have to work to help thier familys but now look on the other side here Americans when they retirer from thier job the goverment gives them money or even if they injure them selves. well many Americans say well thats them but what if our life was changed just for a week I promise you that they will know everything we go though and even if we suffer i would never wish the expierence that many of us go though they will ever go though this. even I in an early age that Im here in the U.S. I still go by hard times well I'm not saying by all of this because I want to say Americans dont know how to do what we do because thats not ture.I m saying it so they will see what is in the world today.thats what I want people to realize. All I or we want is to have an oppurtunity for a better life for the that are still to come to the world and I have faith that one day this will happen oh and I know some people out thier will read this and say stuff about what I just said some positive and some negative.some wil reflect and realize what is going on today. hope this reaches the hearts of many.but one thing I dont want people to think that we come here to take over no please no dont .

Of cpurse immigrants don't want to take over this country....I doubt anyone is of such an opinion. Like I said earlier, my family and I are immigrants, and we, like many others, came here to hopefully find a better future. It wasn't that things were horrible where we're from, but my parents realizes that they wanted more for us, and that in America, we, my brother and I, would have more possibilities to explore our potential.
The thing is, this porblem with illiegal immigration is almost like an "internal" version of the "outsourcing" and "offshoring" problem. After September 11th, both of my parents had a hard time finding new work, as they both used to work in the city, particularly at/very close to ground zero. For a while, they were truly desperate for work. However, with so many immigrants, there was great competition, and my father had a hard time finding a job for a very long time. So, I'm afraid when you stated that illegal immigrants do work that Americans won't do, I beg to differ. I feel that's a generalization with which I cannot agree.
Also, I do not think this is an issue regarding racism. Granted, many of the illegal immigrants are from Mexico and Latin and South America, but there are still plenty of European and Asian illegal immigrants. tehy just have different ways of getting here, illegaly, than, for instance, the people of Mexico do.
I know many people have greater problems than some Americans have, like those you mentioned, but you have to remember, we can't let everyone in. It's just a fact.
I hope your parents find jobs soon. but that's another thing that i don't understand someone "legal" should have more chances to find a job than "illegals",why? because they have papers,they shouldn't worry about competition,but i have seen that immigrants are easily hired because they are cheap labor and does not have the same courage to ask for benefits as any legal person would do,they are happy to receive even lower than the minimun wage.They should also hdeserve some rigths.
Look at the history of America, it was taken over by force. This land REALLY belongs to the native americans whose socities were destroyed by white europeans. In my book we are all illegal immigrants in this land is not ours, but at this point we can't do anything about that so to argue that innocent immigrants looking for honest work in the united states should be shunned away because they are labeled as "illegal" is completely ridiculous. "Americans" need to remember their history and understand that America never belonged to the people who inhabit it now with the exceptions of the NATIVE Americans.
