At least it is according to Daniel Johnston, a song writer that lives in Waller, Texas. If you haven't seen the documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" you need to.
Who is Daniel Johnston?
He is probably best known for his song Casper the Friendly Ghost, which was inspired by the comic book and later adapted to the shoe. Another really good song is Speedy Motorcycle (look it up).
The movie chronicles Daniel's life and battle with mental illness and how is religion fosters it (he believed everyone was possessed by the Devil).
Despite his ups and down this man has become greatly admired by our English class, where we watched the movie. In fact, some of us want to go visit him. Daniel Johnston is my hero. If you've heard his music or seen the move you'll understand his sheer brilliance. Never has Daniel let his illness hinder him, only provide material for his work, even though he was sometimes spinning out of control (like when he crashed a plane under the assumption that he was Captain America). He still writes songs and draws.
I encourage everyone to see "The Devil and Daniel Johnston", see the world through Dan's eyes. Who knows, maybe you too will find an unlikely hero.
