Ok, so I am just SO tired of people not appreciating our military. They are there to protect us and all they do is get ragged on for it. Why do people think that just because your in the military your a killing machine? Were you never taught about steriotypes? There are so many different careers in the military that do not involve killing. And really, I support the jobs that even do involve that. Somebody has gotta get the bad guys. You hear of all those road side bombs and crazy people in these other countries so you just feel nice and safe to critisize. That would be happening in our country every day, maybe right near where you live if it wasnt for our military. Support them people. And they are not just brainwashed young men and women. Alot of people join the military to start a career, get a college education, ect ect. My husband has been training for his job, and he has gotten about 32 college credits in 5 months. He joined because he wanted to serve our country, and help in the fight against the bad guys. If you dont respect and support our troops, get over yourselves. They are the ones doing all the hard work. If it wasnt for them, you wouldnt be free. To all of you in the military: My prayers are with you.
Appreciating our military

I completely agree with you.
The military fights for you so that you CAN say those terrible things about them. They do their job so that YOU don't have to. They make sure your children are safe in their beds at night while they stay up all night, praying that they will live another day to even see their children. They aren't all "brainwashed." They do it because they feel a duty to their country, to YOU. They do it because they want to make their lives better through college and the military may be one of their very few options. Go talk to their wives and children- tell them you don't support their dead father, their dead husband, that did what he did for you. Talk to them. They live lives away from their husbands and fathers so that you CAN sleep with your own husband and see your own father in the morning and kiss him before he goes to work.
This topic makes me wanna scream, because it is so frustrating that no one seems to understand what these people are willing to do so that this country doesn't fall into chaos. A lot of soldiers don't agree with the war, but they are still willing to fight for you. Open your eyes.
My friend,
thank you. I have endured too much anti troops stuff. even if you dont support the war, support the troops. A friend of my husband was walking in an airport and a little elderly lady gave him the finger. What is that all about. And our troops are getting spit on and mean looks, ect ect. I just hate it. The military gives alot of benifits, and yes, there are sacrifices, but in life you have to make sacrifices. The men and women in the military are giving their all. I just wish people would give them more support.
I'm not sure if people don't appreciate the military, I think instead that they don't support it. The masses realize the importance of having a military and appreciate all of the amazing things that our armed forces do every day. But they don't support the causes behind current needs for the armed forces. They can't see why our troops are stationed in foreign countries when things aren't drastically improving. They don't understand why we're staying abroad when more and more Americans are coming back in body bags.
I don't support America's arrogance in believing that we are the end-all of super powers. I don't think its necessary for us to send troops to other countries when these other countries need to stand or fall on their own.
I do appreciate our military. I know a lot of people who are scattered throughout the different branches. I appreciate their dedication to our country and their willingness to sacrifice parts of or their entire lives to protecting us.
The thing is,
people dont see all the good the militarys doing. all you hear on the news is "this many dead, this place bombed". and yes, thats a horrible horrible thing that people need to know about, but they should also talk about how many school were built, ect ect. our military is building a new school about every week in I think my husband said Iraq or afganastan or somthing. but, anyways, not only the bad things but also the good things need to be told.
I'm not saying the military doesn't do good things. They do great things.
But what about our own country? There are plenty of places that need new schools, new hospitals, help getting people back to work, etc.
I personally think that America could really use more of its military at home, doing great things for us. Its time for countries like Iraq and Afghanistan to start doing things on their own. The American training wheels should start to slowly come off.
There are alot of good things being done in our country. But if we just say, ya, we'll be out by this date, than the bad guys are just gonna wait till that date is past to start their operations again. One more thing, we dont know everything thats going on either. theres alot of classified info we cant know.
Sorry, but the Constitution specifically forbids the use of the military for domestic action except to supress insurrections and repel invasions. BTW, thanks for all of the kind words in this thread. I served six years in the Navy and spent the entire time in naval hospitals helping people, not killing. As for the domestic benefit that the military provides- I used my GI Bill and experience to pay for college and medical school, neither of which would have be possible without my navy experience.
O no. I wasnt saying the military does things in the civilian world. but they are doing things overseas. my point was that there is alot being done in our own country. but other countries need our help to. And thumbs up on your service. Im so proud of people like you. And just my point, just because you are in the military does not mean your killing.
I sort of agree - I think that people more or less do not appreciate the idea of going to war, but nothing against the troops. I think people are very appreciative of the troops, but hate the idea of needing to send them to combat and possibly their death. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.
I understand this blog came to life because of my comment on this blog

Please understand I carry no mixed or negative emotions in regard to military personal, but there are certain realities that live within the context and concept of military structures found in our world.
To have brought up “killing machines and brainwash” was not meant to pull things inside the negative, I just brought up a reality which is necessary and a common practice, one already for long proven to be most effective upon youngsters.
Brainwashing works effective in two ways, to allow and prepare for killing, but also to remain sane in the brain.
I've written several blogs on this subject, including "If You Do Not Support the Iraq War, You Do Not Support Our Troops."
I support the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Services, and I support finishing what we started.

A attend a school where more than half of us are in one of the armed forces. They(the military) are some the smartest most disciplined people in this country.
I totally support the war effort. I think what our men in uniform in doing is amazing. They are doing good in countries torn between what what is right and wrong. My uncle, my friends and many others are around the world at this moment trying to make a difference. People complain that we aren't getting anywhere, but God didn't create the world in a day. Change takes time. Maybe if people in this country weren't so selfish and would actually chip in and help each other change could actually occur a little faster, but all your grumbling and complaining really ticks me off, especially when you don't do anything to help others in your community. Don't talk to me until you can say you made a positive impact on someones life that will liberate them from oppression.
I agree. You may or may not support any war we are involved in but I believe we all need to support our troops. They follow orders; they don't get to say, "No, thanks" to orders- they could get hurt. They don't decide to invade a country that's minding it's own business- that comes from a higher power.
Every military person out there is a mother, father, daughter, son, husband, wife, uncle, friend or co-worker. They are still human and it gets tough doing that type of work. Coming home to anything less than a handshake and a thank you is, I believe, deplorable. On top of that, anyone in any country that doesn't support the military has appeared a bit- for lack of a better word- shameful (?) in my eyes. As has been mentioned they are the protection that keeps this country from being overrun. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
The politics of war and the fighting of war are two separate arguments.
