Why do people even get married?

Why do people get married? Why do people date? Why do people lie to each other?
As you guessed, I've been watching Maury again. I remember watching this show when I was a teenager, and all I ever Saw were unfaithful men, telling their wives, or girlfriends that they've been cheating on them; sometimes it was even with their significant others family members.
Nowadays, it's not just the men. Theres actually more women than there are men. "I cheated on you and you and our kids might not be yours." Then they go into the tantrum, throwing themselves on the floor, saying how much they're sorry, and how much they love them.
Why did you cheat in the first place?
I don't understand. What is the point in cheating in the first place? I WOULD NEVER CHEAT ON MY BOYFRIEND. EVER! If you don't want to be with someone, why not just break it off? Why give yourself the headaches? Is it fun to walk around with someone else, thinking your fooling you spouse, or significant other? Is it the thrill of getting caught? Put yourself on the other side? How would you feel if you were in love with someone, and you found out they'd been unfaithful to you?
I just don't get it.
Anyone care to elaborate?
