We May Just Cure Cancer Yet

Mice may just be the ones who cure cancer after all. As an animal lover I am not usually too fond of using animals as science experiments but this time when we win, the mice actually do to. Wake Forest University School of Medicine have found a way to cure cancer in mice. And I mean CURE. GONE FOREVER. By accident in 1999 the research group came across mice that had a gene within their body that made them immune to cancer. They tried 5 different times to infect the tolerant mice with acute cancerous cells and each time no tumors developed. So naturally they bred these mice and found out that about half of their offspring also carried the same genetic trait. They now have about 700 mice that are all immune. Then they took it a step further and injected cancerous ridden mice with the white blood cells from the naturally immune mice, and their white blood cells actually attacked and killed ALL of the infected cells while leaving healthy tissue uneffected. Now, they are not claiming that this will work for humans since mice and humans are different species but they are very hopeful as should we all be. They did say though that preliminary studies hint at the existance of a similar resistance in humans and they hope that harnessing the biological process could lead to a new approach to treating cancer in humans. This is very exciting news I think. 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to undergo surgery to remove it. Now, I am not a doctor but I think that if this actually works, others like me in the future will not have to undergo surgery. Simply shoot us up and let the cells do the work to distroy the tumors. Very exciting indeed.

Great Job. Keep up the good work.

lets hope so. i lost a lot of friends to cancer and i sont wnat to lose anymore

im in your same boat.. check out my blog i just wrote... 'todays reality'! that would be woonderful if an injection was all it took! good luck to you!
