The Universe, Souls, Existence, Outside Substances and the Occasional Drunk

"I always find it greatly amusing when I listen to drunks wax philosophically. What is funny is that they make more sense drunk then they do when they have full acknowledgement of what they say. Drunks are like a child, they are more apt to say what they really mean because they don't have full control. Usually that is a bad thing, but maybe sometimes we all need to get drunk so we can understand existence and clear the air." -Son of Disaster

At least that is my usualy musing. Existence is a funny thing. One moment we exist and the next our bodies exist but the soul/essence/being is gone to heaven/hell/or it just ceases to exist. My problem with the heaven and hell and the ceasing to exist answers is that it doesn't work at all. I mean doesn't one of Newton's laws of Thermodynamics say that energy can neither be created nor destroyed? Well, if that is really the case, then why when we die, does our energy, soul, whatever you call it either cease to exist or go to some higher plane? Doesn't that take energy out of our system then?

When you ponder that, I at least, start to think that maybe the universe isn't a closed system because if our being escapes or ceases to exist, then we are losing energy yet gaining it. I'm sure religious folks could create a fancy answer for this, but God can only fail so many times, can't it, before it isn't considered perfect?

Or maybe this, maybe our being is recycled? I'm not saying reincarnated however. Judaism believe that everything has a soul...at least if I remember correctly. So then when something is destroyed, does the soul of say a rock, go to heaven or is it reused somehow? Oxygen is always here, it goes through a cycling process where it goes back and forth between oxygen and carbon dioxide, so why can't say our souls, be recycled? I guess you'd call that reincarnation, wouldn't you?

Or maybe our universe really is an open system and not closed. If the multi-verse theory which seems to be more and more plausible, exists, then it allows for an open system between the various universes. Maybe heaven and hell are all parts of this multi-verse system and we can't comprehend them so we call them, heaven and hell? Who knows. Still, a multi-verse would allow for the cycling of energy throughout whatever the multi-verse exists in, energy would never cease and after the energy has sped up, then the multi-verse would crash and restart itself. The problem would be, we are still breeding, how come we still breed yet still not run out of souls? Well there are thousands on thousands of deaths every year but they still outweigh the populations growth, well maybe in another universe then opposite is true, thus we're getting what that multi-verse shoots out. Or better yet, with our slowly dwindling natural resources and animals, maybe those things being is being used in humans? It's just a thought, but nonetheless and interesting one.

But like I said, maybe sometimes we should use an outside substance to understand things better...who knows, maybe some drunk son of a bitch will figure all this out, heh.

I often think of things like this and no I don't have a religious answer for you because I am not a religious fanatic. There is this drug called Salvia, it is legal. You are only "high" for about 5-20 minutes but people have said they have went on journey's with the drug. Some have gained new understanding of the world. look it up on youtube.com if you are interested. I tried to look for a site to post but most of them are just selling Salvia.

I believe being drunk is good once in a while. When a person does drugs or drinks it seems they are in a different reality living in a whole different world they never knew. I have often wondered if reality is just a dream. It is a very werid theory but I think it is logical.

As for souls I really don't know...you pose some good questions.

I'm far from religious. I'm open to whatever but I will never fall into religious dogma again. Hmm, I need to check out this Salvia. I think someone at my job took it once on break. Supposedly my hair was changing colors, lol.

I think it is logical as well. I mean, who are we to say what is real and what isn't. It's all based on perception and drugs and alcohol change that. Even the mentally handicapped have a different perception on reality. Maybe that's all that reality is, perception.

Thanks. You pose some interesting theories on reality.

This was really interesting to read... It helped me sort out some of my problems with religion. I know I believe in some type of god, but the specifics lose me a bit... Also, I might have to look into this Salvia stuff. Thanks for the great, introspective blog!

Really? Sweet. Glad it helped. I'm still out on believing in a God, I'm agnostic with a slight edge toward a belief in a God, but I'm not convinced that there is a God yet.

What are some of your problems with religion?

And thanks for reading the blog.

I believe there is a god but I find alot of flaws in the bible. I also question alot of things like how was god created? I know you were asking the other person but I felt the urge to respond...
When my mom was in the hospital I prayed every day. She still died.

I believe my biggest issue is with people believing their religion is the correct one. I wrote a blog on this. It really pisses me off. I am in a process of actually writing a book about how it would make sense that long ago there was just one religion then some one decided they did not like that rule and changed rules forming another religion. Because I believe no one has the answers. Or someone pushing religion on me. I read a blog the other day, the person stated that if you don't repent you ARE going to hell. And they said it wasn't a party... No shit. I don't agree with that statement.

See, I believe the Bible is a historical document with the stories passed down, but I don't take it at face value. My mother had cancer while we were going through a horrible financial situation. I prayed that everything would work out. My mom got better, but our financial situation got worse and our car was repoed. Then I heard Joel Osteen talking about how God has good things in store for all of us. It pushed me over the edge because for someone like him who has everything, he has no idea what everyone else is going through. I find Osteen to be a fake and manipulator.

I agree with you, no one knows which religion is right. Hell, maybe they all are and when we die, whatever you believe will happen to you, will happen. I agree, if the creation story is true, then Adam and Eve were Jewish because Judaism didn't exist. I think there was a mix of a pagan and deist religion in the beginning if either the creation or evolution story is true.

I also believe the Bible is a historical document but people lie. I believe that some of the bible's information could have been altered or fabricated. One tiny misconception could have screwed up part of the story. I actually watched this movie called Jesus The missing History. It was interesting because they were arguing whether Jesus was actually born in Bethlaham. Many historians did not believe that he was born there. Also the word carpenter comes from a word that has 2 meanings...the other meaning was builder. So they said Jesus and his father could have been a stone builder which would have made more since back in that time.

I'm glad your mom got better. Yeah financial situations like that suck. I have never heard of Joel Osteen..but that would make me pretty pissed myself. We had a car repoed. We had our land taken away because we couldn't pay for it. Then my mom had a hysterectomy and the doctor cut her bladder in the process. Then she got Lupus...and the hospital killed her. I only wish I was making that up...I understand about bad financial situations. My grandmother is currently in rehab because she broke her leg and they said either give us 6,000 a month or she will be kicked out.

I'm surprised you actually agree most people will try to fight with me on that..like give me evidence. I can't give evidence on religion and no one can. But my point is closed minded people....are ignorant and annoy me. I agree with the adam and eve story you stated. Each day I live I only get more and more confused about things like this.

I hadn't heard that about Jesus. I knew his birth was disputed, but that about him and his father is interesting. I definately need to check out this movie.

Wow, that sounds like a bad movie. Life sucks. Sorry about your mom dying and your grandmother having to go through rehab. 6,000 is outrageous. I'm not into the whole united healthcare thing, but we definately need to fix the insurance system without making the government control it. Did ya'll ever sue the hospital for the error? In a world where everyone is afraid to admit when things go wrong, it's nice to see that there are people who actually will talk about it. As painful as it is, it is oddly healing in a way.

The people who ask for evidence are the same people who are unable to give evidence to their thoughts as well. At least you see that, unlike them. It amazes me how beliefs can blind a person to other ideas. I am throughly tired of close-minded, ignorant people as well.

DrifterDani6886's picture

But it is was really interesting.

Something will work out with my grandmother I hope. Yeah we do need to fix it and the healthcare system. Sueing the hospital did not work. We went to 2 lawyers and they told us something I think is screwed up. Where I live the person needs to make alot of money each year. Since my mom was sick and only made 1,000 dollars that year (she owned her own business that she ran from our house) they pretty much said that if she contuined to live she wouldn't make that much money. Therefore pretty much her life is insignificant. Plus the insurance company would have to be paid first. 250,000 dollars.

The hospital put a deep-line catheter in an artery instead of a vein. Before that my mom was talking, walking, moving, and breathing on her own. After that the next day she went into respitory failure, was having seizures, and had a stroke. The hospital tried to say that she had a stroke, and respitory problems when she ENTERED the hospital, and I know they are full of shit. She was in a coma for almost a month and my dad and I watched her pass in the hospital. She was 47 and I was 18. But we could not sue the hospital because of the stupid technical reasons and it pisses me off. We even had a doctor admit to my dad, uncle, cousin, and aunt that by the deepline catheter being placed in the wrong spot, it caused the stroke, coma, sezuires, respitory failure but after that day he disappeared.

It has been 2 years and it still pisses me off. I don't understand why people won't admit things. It is healing to talk about it I believe also. I actually wrote a blog on how I watched her pass away and I struggled to write it. it was very hard to actually write. Although I am a women, I don't act like one, I normally do not cry..but I did with that blog. I actually don't get along with most women. They gossip to much and whine. Not all but alot of them.

Glad we have the same views about closed minded people. I have mainly been in arguements with people who are Athesist. I do not like to judge but...this I found common.

I don't think that the Universe is a closed system. A blog (or response) by DB springs to mind when he was talking about some sort of particle that would just cease to exist...
However, I wouldn't consider a person's "self" to be a sort of energy or something. It is merely a reflection of chemical properties in our brain which fails and vanishes when our brain does. But the electrical energy that is generated by our body sticks around. The particles that make us up stick around.
So, in a way, yeah, when you die you become part of everything.

The more I see, the less I think that is a closed system. I think both DB and Percivale have written on a sort of particle that ceases to exist. My thing is that something has to make us alive, I guess it is the electrical energy generated by our body, but I don't know. I'm not saying it's some higher being, far from it, i just think that it really sucks that our thoughts, ideas and whatnot just cease to exist, lol.
