Happy Martin Luther King Day

Today January 15, 2007, is the day that we remember and celebrate the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.  He is remembered as one of the most influential people and one of the greatest orators.  Many believe this is simply a Monday off, to kick back and relax, and many don’t even get this day off.  Actually, this is the first time in my life that I’ve gotten work and school off.  Perhaps it is because some people don’t understand the impact that Dr. King had, or perhaps it’s because I live in
Wyoming.  Nonetheless it is important to read and think about the thoughts of Dr. King.

“I have a dream...

I have a dream that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today."

Many of us are familiar with this speech, familiar with the dream of Dr. King.  Now I wonder what Dr. King would be thinking about the state of the world today, the state of the races he was fighting for, the state of
America, the economy, the war etc. Reverend King certainly had a significant impact on this country, he help progression forward years ago.  I have to wonder though, what would his dream be today?

He did once say, The chain reaction of evil--wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.” Something tells me that perhaps he wouldn’t be completely satisfied with the status quo.  On days like these, days of remembrance for those that helped us progress as a country, why don’t we apply the ideas that we have stopped to remember to our lives today?

I have a dream that one day we will learn from past mistakes.

There's a saying: "There is nothing new under the sun." Everything that we see, every racist person, every war, every mistake, has been done before. And every generation thinks that they will be the one to break the cycle. And every generation just ends up with a new sin. How easy it is to be as completely blind to our own mistakes as our mothers and fathers were to theirs... It really, really sucks.

I think that modern day is even worse then when MLK was around. Back then blacks lacked the ability to do the things of the whites. Now whites get persecuted for anything said about the black race.

If we commited a crime to a black it is a hate crime. They commit a crime to us it is just a crime. We also do not have our own scholarship for just being white. A black person can slander a white person and it is accepted but if a white person slanders a black man (even if it is not about his race) we are looked down upon.

Look at the recent Kramer incident. Blacks were calling him racist remarks and he back lashed with his own racist remarks. Last I checked Kramer made the headlines and all the stories were defending the blacks. Where's the justice in that? I mean if you are going to down talk me I am going to do it right back.
