Green Revolution?

You've seen and heard it in many a television newscast or magazine article: Organic is in, baby! Now that we've come to realize that many of our conventionally cultivated foodstuffs are fortified with steiroids and chemicals we can barely pronounce, people are at least trying to become more aware of what they put into their bodies, opting for organically grown produce or free-range meat products. The awareness fix doesn't stop there: we're even paying more attention to what we put on our bodies too. Clothing designers are beginning to advertise the fact that their clothes are manufactured from organically grown cotton or the ever sustainable bamboo, or some other eco-friendly material. Finally, we have come full circle and have learned to respect Mother Earth again! Let the celebration begin!
Umm, really?
This so-called "green is the new black" movement is still in its baby stages folks. Unfortunately, I still find that the majority of food products put on the market and advertised to us are still filled with those creepy hormones and chemicals. Other than looking for the USDA Organic seal, we may pick up a food product that reads "all natural" on its label but still manage to have that pesky high fructose corn syrup listed among its ingredients. Mind you, this is found in the one aisle dedicated to organic food in your local supermarket chain. Of course, we can all take a trip to Whole Foods to alleviate this problem-if, of course, you have one in your area.
In terms of clothing, I still have yet to see products made from sustainable materials filling the racks of my local department store. Sure, you may find some, but it'll take a monumental scouring of the racks-or, the Internet-to do so.
The bottom line? Although some companies are taking a step towards the improvement of a relationship between them and nature, the new green revolution isn't as far reaching as they (the media) crank it up to be. In the eyes of the truly concious consumer, there is still much room for improvement. We'll be waiting.

You know, there is so much I want to say here that I think I should leave it to a blog of my own. XD

You've touched upon a topic I'm very passionate about.

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, it really pisses me off to see all of this hulabaloo about a branch of products that haven't made much headway in the market yet. I just wish that the media didn't get my hopes up so soon. It'll improve, though. Again, thank you.

What makes me angry is that the 'green revolution' would be moving along at a much better pace if people weren't greedy and looking to make a profit.

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.
