Tourture is a major issue these days. I quite understand how views have changed so drastically over the past few decades. Tourture use to be acceptable, and even commonly given to high threat criminals and terrorists. Today however, everytime we hear the word tourture, everyone automatically assumes that this practice is barbaric.
I agree, tourture is barbaric. So is war, and any other kind of killings among other humans. I agree that the world would be a much better place to live in if there wasn't war, and there wasn't tourture, but this isn't the utopian world that we all would like to think it is. There is chaos, and barbarism.
What I don't understand is when mass murderers and terrorists are tourtured and humiliated by U.S. soldiers, why that makes it worse than what the criminal himself did. I mean, I agree that tourture is bad, just like I agree was is a bad thing; but I still feel that there are necissary times to become involved in these activities.
Politically correct americans are softies. Too soft. I encourage respect among people. I encourage respect for other people's feelings, but not to the extent of euphamisms and comprimises.
Anyway, this is the america that we live in. This is the america that we all have created:
Suppose a terrorist high jacked a plane. Just before hitting his targeted building, he jumps out of a parachute to save his life, and hopes he can provide more activites for his jiihad. The result...he kills hundreds of people; Americans, asians, middle easterns, africans... He is captured for the genicide he created, but not killed. He is spared his life by the U.S. military. He tells them that it is not yet over and that 3 nuclear bombs are about to explode in less than 2 hours. At this point what choice does the government have. I mean, this criminal in an previous day and age would be sentenced to death roe! Spared his life, and then asked the details about the event about to take happen.
The terrorist does not comply, and by doing so chooses to be tourtured of even killed. The government has the choice to either touture him and get the information they need in order to save millions of lives, or to let this terrorist or other murderus criminal off the hook. Either way, people are mad. If the military tourtures the terrorist, it it viewed as barbaric, hateful, and harsh. If the military does not take drastic measures, millions of people die, and people would hate the military for knowing this would happen but not doing anything to stop it. It's a lose lose situation.
What would you do?'
I'd tourture the terrorist, because in fact, he chose to be tourtured himself.

Not tourture. Torture.
Most the people tortured didn't even do anything bad. And torture is pretty pointless, it only gets you false confessions.
