Rove is movin' on!

We'll consider this post more of a happy dance masquerading as a blog post versus a regular old blog post. But, I just had to say it...

Karl Rove is leaving the White House at the end of the month. When I saw that headline this morning, I thought I'd finally lost touch with reality. But no! He's really leaving. This is almost as wonderful as the day Rumsfeld resigned. I cried tears of joy then (and likely will come Rove's last day).

>>WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An emotional Karl Rove characterized his tenure in the White House as a "witness to history" as he announced his resignation as President Bush's senior political adviser at the end of this month.

"It seems the right time to start thinking about the next chapter in our family's life," Rove said, his voice breaking. "It's not been an easy decision."

Speaking to reporters outside the White House with Bush at his side, Rove said discussions about his departure began last summer. "It always seemed there was a better time to leave, somewhere out there in the future. But now is the time."

He told Bush he would be "your fierce and committed advocate on the outside."

Bush said Rove "is movin' on down the road," and added, "I'll be on the road behind you here in a little bit." >>

Ah, I hate to be mean, but I really hope Rove moves far, far, far down the road. I'm thinking Saturn might be far enough away from the White House to suit me until Bush and Co is out the door.

Maybe Rove is a good guy, who knows? All I know is that he worries me. A lot. He helped mobilize the religious right to give Bush a second term, which they have since spent on policies and ideas that scare me almost as much as the religious right scares me. That's just far too much terror.

So, I shall cry tears of joy on August 31. Hell, I might even send up a thank you to the God I don't even follow. This news is just that beautiful to me.

Rove is abandoning a sinking ship. His only hope to stay out of the sights of a Democratic Attorney General in 2009 is to make sure that the Republican candidate actually wins the 2008 election.

As for the rest of us, this means that we have to double the pressure on Congress, work harder on our local and congressional campaigns, and take the White House once and for all.

If Democrats have a pre-911 view of things, Republicans have a pre-July 4th view of things.

when i think karl rove, one thing immediately springs to mind...

this one episode of american dad (terrible show, i know, but i was at a friend's house and nothing else was on!) where every time rove's name was mentioned there would be ominous thunder and lighthing, followed by the sound of howling wolves.

i just hope rove doesn't leave the white house in order to ally himself to one of the less savory right-wing candidates *coughfredthompsoncough* and worm his way right back into DC.
