Masking Ourselves

People are always talking about how they cannot wait until they leave home, get away from there parents, and meet knew people, new friends. Yet, should you trust these people? Another thing a lot of people say about college is it’s a chance to start over new. A second chance to mask your past and not make the same mistakes you made in the beginning; to fool people into liking you.
Why do people need to put on the masks to begin with? What happened to honesty? It seems like people care to much about what the rest of the world thinks, instead of caring about what they think. For example, a person might have participated in an extracurricular activity like chess or robotics club; but in college they might shy away from those clubs because of the way he was thought of by his peers in high school. It seems as if high school never ends. People are always concerned with there looks or there friends, thinking they have to achieve a higher level of beauty or popularity. Isn’t it somewhat immature? People are fighting to get a higher social status, something that really doesn’t matter.
That’s why people put on a mask; that’s why people lie. The mask is there to hide who they really are and to show everyone that society accepts. It hides what the person

feels and thinks about certain problems and conflicts. For instance, a girl might date a really popular guy, even though she really doesn’t like him. She’s just doing it for the popularity she’s getting. It’s wrong.
Who cares what society thinks, should care what you think. People shouldn’t have to put on a mask to hide their true selves, to hide their true potential. In the end, what I think people come to realize is that it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. Just what you think; you make the decisions, not them.

This is very true. THe thing is, society is promoting making ourselves look better through lies. We all turn over new leaves, but then it all comes down to one of those unanswerable statements: Can one's past really ever die?

Exactly, thats why people have palastic surgery

deep stuff.....It's true though...many people think that they have to change to be acceptable and that is the sadest thing.....Leaving home is exciting, but coming home is always better.

It will get better in college. High school is full of adolescents that are confused about their sexuality and haven't experimented yet with it. they are not experienced and therefore would rather discriminate and alienate their fellow classmates to relieve their worries and problems because it makes them feel in control. college narrows the person's interest to the core and they are not forced to take so many unnecessary and uninteresting classes and therefore we can take off our dead skin because we actually know what is underneath it. before, we didn't even realize that it was there.
