Thinking back on when we were young....

Have you ever sat and listened to young people today talk about how they have it so hard? I'm not saying that we had it easy or anything, but things are so much easier for the youth of today. I'm in my early 30's and when I was growing up, we didn't have a million cable channels, we didn't have cell phones, nor did we have the high tech computers that they have available today. I've seen kids in my son's third grade class walking around with cell phones, they are 9 year olds, why do they have cell phones? I have heard kids in the stores yelling at their parents because they want another game system to add to their collection. I've seen blogs on here about them taking the junk food out of their schools. We didn't even have vending machines in our schools. We didn't get to leave campus until our senior year for lunch. The only time that the soda machines were opened were after school and even then, they were in the teacher's lounge. When did our kids get so spoiled? When do you draw the line? Is it our fault or society's fault that our kids are so spoiled?

I think that the point that many kids make is that many of us are left to fend for themselves now. Yes there are all these fancy gadgets and high tech toys, but many parents buy these devices to keep their children busy, so they can avoid actually having to spend quality time with their kids. Parents are entertaining children from a very early age by sitting them in front of the television. Many of them just gravitate to what they know. This is a new age of technology and we are turning to a new era but nine year olds dont walk into the store and purchase the cell phone on their own. We need to look to the source of this change and understand why it has become so drastic.
