Opening a Political Can of Worms

I'm sure many of you have probably seen or heard about Ann Coulter's "shameless dispaly of bigotry" in her speech at the American Conservative Union's Political Action Conference on March 2. That Ann, boy does she grind my beans. How dare she call a democrat a *gasp* dare I say it, a NAME?! Oh! The horror! Just to fill in anyone who hasn't heard of this yet, Ann Coulter (conservative commentator) refered to John Edwards (democrat candidate for President) as a faggot. Why, it's even plastered on the front page of Senator Edwards' web site, if you'd like to see it (johnedwards.com). He's even using this to raise money "against bigotry" whatever that means. By the way, for the vocabulary impaired people such as myself, I looked the word bigotry up on dictionary.com. It means "stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own. " Last I checked, calling someone a faggot doesn't count as stubborn and complete intolerance or everyone who has ever called anyone a faggot must be a supporter of bigotry.

Isn't it funny how TV Host Bill Maher can suggest the death of Vice President Cheney would be a good thing, but forbid Ann Coulter call a presidential CANDIDATE gay in jest? Doesn't he support homosexuals anyway? Why is being called a faggot such a huge insult? I'm getting tired of democratic drama. Did you hear about peace activist Cindy Sheehan who called President Bush the worst terrorist on the planet? No? Probably because the liberal media didn't blow that one out of proportion. They wouldn't do that to one of their own.

So there. I said it. Feel free to agree or disagree, but remember John Edwards wants you to fight bigotry.

I think it is more the forum she said it in than anything. Also, even though she may be more on the comedian side than actual pundit, calling anyone a slur like that, no matter your position, advances no argument.

Nancy

My point was not that what she said was right, because honestly she could have put it more... er... nicely, but it was that she says one thing and everyone gets on her case. There are numerous accounts of people bashing the "right" side, but nobody makes a big deal about that.

Yes, the left gets bashed too, but it's not broadcasted all over the news like the right does.
