Assisted Suicide

Tagged:  •

Last year for my english class we all had to a research project on a controversial issue. I chose to do assisted suicide. After learning so much about it, I've become in favor for it. Besides the fact that it should be everyone's descion to live or die, if people are so sick to the point where it hurts them badly enough to want to die, then they should be able to. When an animal is injured any humane person would be quick to put it out of its misery, so why should it be any different for humans? Assisted Suicide became most publicly know when Dr. Kevorkian began injecting terminally ill patients to kill them. Although he recieved much critizism and he is currently in jail for what he did, I agree with the idea behind his actions. I'm interested to hear other people's opinions on this issue. Please tell me what you think.

My thoughts exactly. If I were terminally ill and in pain, I'd want to be euthanized. It's not a pleasant way to live; if we were to make an animal go through it, we'd be considered "inhumane". :P

hurray, finally someone agrees with me. =]

If people are in that much pain that they want to die, it should be up to them to kill themselves, and they should not have any help from anybody else. In my opinion, assisted suicide is just a synonym for voluntary manslaughter.

Assisted suicide is a painless way to die. Most forms of suicide (that I know of anyways) are painful. At least if someone opts to commit assisted suicide they can take comfort in the fact that it won't be painful.

Not necessarily. There are many suicide victims who drug themselves with sleeping pills in order to kill themselves, or overdose on lethal drugs. I'd say dying while in a deep slumber is a painless way to die.

If I had a choice to die, I'd definitely go for what they use for euthanasia purposes. That stuff is instantaneous. :X

Terminally ill patients asking someone to help kill them, and the person helps...isn't he a murderer?
