"I Need To Go Potty"

That's a phrase I've heard probably a thousand times since we decided to charge head first into a battle against the diaper demons and potty train the twins.  I've washed the same "big girl panties" dozens of times over.  It's a journey that is both frustrating and hilarious!  Fortunately, we've been lucky enough to experience a greater deal of the hilarity than the frustration!!

First there's Abigail, baby A, who we had to literally trick into even putting on a pair of panties.  She's not quite the energetic type, so I don't think the idea of having to actually get up and go to the potty every time she had to use the bathroom was that appealing to her.  She would always cry and scream that she wanted to wear a diaper when I tried to put some panties on her, so mama finally got smart and used some trickery and dishonesty to coerce her to do what I wanted:  I simply hid the diapers and told her that she had to put on panties because we didn't have anymore diapers.    Yes, I know that it was a devilish thing to do, but she's wearing big girl panties everyday now, so it was worth it!

Second there's Brianna, baby B, of course, who chose on her own that she wanted to start wearing panties.  Thank God for eager little beavers like her!  She, however, was the twin that had a sort of phobia about going potty in the toilet.  I don't pretend to understand it, but I know it's real, for sure.  She just simply had a problem with going in the toilet.  She's gone on the bathroom counter, the floor, and only God and Brianna know what other spots have been doused with her "potty" that I haven't found yet.

All in all, though, they are doing pretty well.  I just have one complaint that has arisen from our new adventure of potty training:  NOBODY else gets to use the bathroom because one of the twins is ALWAYS pottying!  I guess that's a small price to pay to save the big price of diapers, though!

We've had many priceless and hilarious moments during this process, and I wanted to share some of them with you to give you something to smile about.  Aw, the things that kids say and do....

OUR FUNNY MOMENTS

Brianna insists on having big girl panties put over her diaper every night when she goes to bed.

When Abigail has to go potty, she usually doesn't use the common phrase of "I need to go potty."  Instead, she usually grabs her "potty area" and yells, "Mama, it's coming out!  It's coming out!"

Brianna sneakily corrects the situation when she has an accident by simply changing to a new pair of big girl panties.  When I ask her where her other panties are, she just says, "They got wet."  They got wet how?  She's never answered that question, just for the record.  It's always a shrug of the shoulders and very nonchalant "I don't know."

Abigail is very precise about what the roll of toilet paper looks like when she gets done going potty.  If there is any excess toilet paper hanging down from the roll after she finishes, she very carefully rolls it back so there is none left hanging.  A little OCD, I know, but it definitely tickled my funny bone the first time I saw her do it!

Brianna has acquired the nickname of "Potty Head" because when we first started potty training, she would put her head into the toilet.  I don't even want to know if she did it before or after she flushed.

Abigail has been busted while peeing outside in the front yard.  Yes, that would be the front yard that sits just ten or fifteen feet off of the road where every passing car could spy her shiny little hind end!

Our bathroom has been flooded twice because of the huge pile of toilet paper that was clogging the toilet.  Both times that this happened, though, I don't know what was funnier:  the fact that one of the twins flooded the bathroom or the looks on their faces when the water started spilling out of the commode and onto the floor!

Potty training has turned the twins into masters at the game of hide and seek.  I've found wet panties stashed EVERYWHERE...in their dresser, in the pantry, in the dryer, and the favorite, behind the curtains.  I cringe to think where they've stashed other pairs that I haven't found yet!

And, last but certainly not least, we have their newly developed habits of neighborly flashing and streaking.  This is that situation when George and I are both outside talking to our 60ish year old neighbor, Tom, from across the street when the twins appear on the porch in their birthday suits ranting about how they "did it!"  Of course, this an occasion for celebrating; however, it can be done WITHOUT exposing the dimples in their upper and lower cheeks.  I'm sure Tom would agree with us, too!

So, to sum it all up.  While our toilet paper use has been increased by about 150%, we use diapers only when the twins sleep, so the decreased cost of diapers far outweighs the TP, for sure!  They are both making wonderful progress, and we're having a hilarious time along the way!  Hope we made you smile today!

(Who could have known that someone could write an entire blog about potty training?  Well, I guess if people can write entire books on the process, then one measly little blog isn't much to brag about, huh? LOL!)
