Slavery ended a long time ago right? Wrong. In the world today it is estimated that there are 27 million + slaves. That is a huge number, 27 million people are bound in slavery for their entire lives. Some where born into it and some where forced into it, some where sold by their families to rich 'americanos' for money. The horror stories of slavery are as graphic and endless today as they were hundreds of years ago.
I've been an active abolitionist for years and so when the movie 'Amazing Grace' came out, I was thrilled that international awareness would be raised for the anti-slavery movement. Now I am promoting the movie and its relative website http://www.theamazingchange.com/index.html everywhere I can.
On this web site there is a petition that you can sign online or print off and send in. It only takes a few moments from your day, I really encourage everyone to take a few minutes to do this and spread the word. Post this link on your myspace, xanga, facebook, etc. Email the link to your friends, repost it in a blog on progressiveU! Just take a few minutes to become an abolitionist and help save 27 million lives.
[Americans have the tendency to be selfish, lets do something for the millions of people suffering for a change.]

"Some where born into it and some where forced into it, some where sold by their families to rich 'americanos' for money."
Maybe you're talking about something more specific... but the whole being "sold [...] to rich 'americanos'" thing kinda threw me off...
And yes, I believe that petition went around my school. And yes- I signed it. Hopefully all those signatures will actually get something done about the situation.
the 'americanos' term is used frequently by third world countries and uneducated peoples around the world, it usually refers to either americans or wealthy white-race people in prominent countries. [the USA is one of the largest importers of the slave trade in the world today.]
glad you signed.

I knew what the term meant. I was just unsure if it was meant to state that Americans are doing the most slave labor-trade thing compared to other people. But as 'surprising' as that is... I guess it isn't. Sad.
The petition went around my community recently, and I signed as well...
It still blows my mind to realise that a war was fought where brothers turned against brothers, and still slavery exists.
Yes, a war was fought, but only in the USA, the rest of the world either abolished slavery by law or let it fade slowly. Now it is full force, but under the table. It's a horrible happening.
