Too much time?

Everyone needs a break but how big of a break is too much?  At the beginning of the year we started our new year off just as everyone else, including congress.  In congress Democrats had control over the house and there were new things put on the agenda this year.  One of the most drastic measures on their agenda was to help restore the image of congress by vowing to change "do nothing" to "do something".  What is this drastic measure to fulfill their vow?  A five-day work week.

We are already into the month of February and that vow is still yet to be fulfilled.  Granted, there were a couple days that they had off such as finishing off their Christmas break and Martin Luther King Jr. Day but a couple days they didn't reconvene for unknown reasons.  When is the congress going to execute their vow?

Their vow was heard and is waiting to be proven.  The senate is full of hard working people from all over the nation that has many obligations but they are also obligated to complete their vow that they made to the country.

I feel that they have a commitment to their country to prove their goals and to improve congress's image.  With them not being able to work a five day work week as our country's future and leaders, I question their vow.  Why did they make it in the first place if they can't stick with it?  The unknown reasons on why they didn't reconvene we won't know but the rumors we do hear.

One of the rumors that was circulating was a college football championship for one of the days that they missed.  If an average American can go to work forty hours a week for five days a week all year round why can't elected officials do so when their average pay is $100,000.  Not only is their pay a large sum but they should feel honored and privileged for receiving the opportunity of being in senate.

The beginning of 2007 has also brought major topics into the light and decisions are going to have to be made.  For example global warming or Bush's proposal of sending troops over or even if we should go to war with
Iran.  These decisions shouldn't be postponed and on hold just because people need a day off.  I feel that the issues that we have heard about in January really need to be focused on but doesn't seem to be on the priority list for the senate.

I am really disappointed on them not fulfilling their vow and I feel let down by them as they made a commitment to the country by going into the senate.  If they are our future but don’t make decisions that should be made, where is our country going to end up and what will be the result if the efforts aren't put forth into a five day work week?
