People can't change. They're afraid of change even though everyone admits that they aren't. Now say someone is very timid and shy and then suddenly they are this brash, outspoken person, have they changed? Sure but they haven't.
Everyone has a "persona" that they use, but that is never the whole thing. This leads us to assume that because someone has "changed" their persona, means that they've been changed as a person. In reality, they haven't. The part we hide from the world is brought forth by who knows what but it isn't a change, but an evolution, awakening, or bringing out.
Humans are who their personality is. We hide certain parts of our personality for a number of reasons, but we never really change. Even a smoker is always going to be a smoker, it just depends on if they have the self-control to keep from smoking again. This then begs to ask the question, has the smoker always been a smoker? No, but they didn't change, they picked up a habit, and you can never drop something once you've gotten it.
People can't change. I'd really not like to be a sarcistic ass, but I am, and I'll always be a sarcistic ass because it's my personality. The day it goes away is the day I can control it, but like I say, what's the fun in lying to yourself?

Ah, how I empathize with you.

Im glad someone does.
Well, if you ever need any consolation, just send me a wire and we'll have a sarcastic asshole to sarcastic asshole talk.

That would be an interesting conversation full of sarcastic responses, but it would be fun, lol.
Yes. Fun. lol

You both already said you watch House.
So, the sarcastic ass thing is satisfied weekly.
No, Nick said that he watched House. I watch it if it's on because Hugh Lorry is great, but I don't go out of my way. I don't even know when it's on at all. And if you tell me, I still won't go out of my way to watch it, especially since I don't have a tv.

If a smoker is always a smoker, even once they quit, then it's not just 'picking up a habit'. And you can drop a habit, by forming a new one. It takes 21 consecutive days to do, and it's really difficult, but it's possible. So if ou have the habit of... not flossing your teeth, say (random example), you can break that habit by forcing yourself to floss your teeth every day for 21 days.

But even if they quit, they still want to smoke they replace it with something else but the smoking habit is the underlying cause permanently, just like there is an underlying cause that causes the smoking.
That's not a habit. It's an addiction. A habit can be broken, by replacing it with a new habit. But smoking alters the chemistry in your brain... it is addicting, as are many drugs. An addiction is something that can be fallen back onto very easily, which is why alcoholics tend not to drink at all once they become sober... it's too easy to slip back into drinking too much.
Also, theoretically, you can condition yourself to hate smoking, by doing something like zapping yourself each time you want to smoke. You'll eventually associate the pain with the thought, and so you won't think it anymore.

It is both a habit and an addiction, you make a habit of something always and then it can lead to an addiction, but habit is always the basis. But we all fall back on something easily whether it is drugs, alcohol, sex, religion, whatever you want, we are all addicted to something and we can't change. We can prevent but not change. There will always be the cause that creates the habit that creates the addiction.
The problem with zapping yourself is that you eventually get used to it so it isn't a deterent anymore.
I would argue the whole point is kind of moot, since I would say that being a smoker is an intrinsic part of who a person is.

I differ, gods die every day... it depends on who God is.
Rest In Peace.
SO yes you are correct Sir, but, the soul is always immortal so do Gods really die or do they just leave and come back at another time?
Think about it.
Something that never lived can never die. Belief in a god may die, but the god itself was never had a life to lose.

I change all the time, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad but, I do make changes in my life everyday. Without change in my opinion, you might as well be dead.
I will say though, deep down inside their is a part of me that will never change, and that is my rebelistic---is that a word? side. I know that I was put here to fight for humanities rights and stand up for what I believe in the most, GOD or LOVE. They are the same thing to me.
I will not and can't let the gov't tell me what I can and can't think or believe. I would rather die than bow down to those Satanist Pigs that are eventually going to lead our Nation, OUR WORLD into the hands of the Devil. WW3
I will die for humanity if that means, my brother and sisters can have peace and love in the future. My life means nothing compared to the rest of the World...it's all about the World.
I love you all, and I am here for you

You're missing the point. You can't change who you are. We all change from day to day with life experiences but we are still the same person with the same personality so we infact can't change. As Jsaj said, being an alcoholic or a smoker is an intricil (sp) of who we are. Me being sarcastic is who I am, I can control my sarcastic behavior, but I am still sarcastic and I haven't changed.
Humans don't like to change. Saying you believe in God and then switching to atheism is belief change, not a character change. It doesn't change who we are, but what people believe is what we are.
The government might be bad, but they aren't satanist pigs.
You missed my point, although I do agree with you. X being a smoker is not an intrinsic part of them. What is the intrinsic part is the biological traits that make them more vulnerable to cigarette addiction.
Just saying, slight miscommunication.
