If you just stop in a high school you will hear a stereotype for every race. Even on t.v. for example asians are bad drivers, african-americans are lazy, mexicans are dirty, white people have sex with their sisters, and of course arabs are called ragheads, towelheads, camel jockies, and terrorists. Although these are some pretty bad things they do have some truth to them. See a stereotype is similar to a rumor some truth then expanded to generalize a group. For example the muslims... terrorists because most commonly they are the radicals. Only a small portion are but they do a lot of crazy stuff and it catches them all a bad rep. anyone got ideas or want to discuss it lemme know.

Sterotypes, as defined pyschologically, are shortcuts through perception. They are not meant to be either negative or positive in general ideas, but they have become that way over time. Unfortunately.
There are Christian radicals too. They're the ones protesting at solider's funerals because America is too kind to the gays.
There are Muslim and Sikh and Christian and Jewish terrorists too. It's just more convenient for CNN and Fox news to tell you about the Muslim ones to keep you scared of the Middle East.
The point is that stereotypes do have a grain of truth... the problems are a) making it okay to insult and injure other people through negative stereotyping and b) judging every member of a group through a stereotype.
yes... but i am saying in general people would think of muslims. I personally am aware trust me i do my homework before i open my mouth usually.

That's why most people think of Muslims. Nobody wants to talk about the Israelis bombing Palestinians or the Sikhs bombing Hindus.
I agree I was using that as an example. However when people say terrorist most people wouldn't think of white people... well at least not catholics/christians. Mainly they think of muslims maybe not us here in the progressiveu community but outside they do... i had to do an independent study for a class.
OMG, I absolutly hate stereotypes.. I am one of those people who notice the small stereotypes in tv shows and it bugs the hell out of me. So i'm totally glad that i'm not the only person who notices these small things

Yea you are not alone... sometimes they are funny to an extent but the major ones bug me and there is a lot of bad stuff they air but i'm all about having a good time although i won't say them i might laugh because sometimes they are funny. I laugh at most things because in reality you can't please everybody so yea don't worry about it live your life the way you want to. I see alotta people signing like you did alayna so I'm going to do the same.
