Senior-itis: wishing you were back in junior high.

"I can't believe you're a senior!" is the usual exclamation.  Yes, the last year of high school has discovered many teens this fall.  Suddenly college visits, applications, scholarships, and AP classes are not safely tucked around the next corner, but staring you in the face.  The reality of college and a career, the stress of decisions that will change your life, and the responsibilities that come with adulthood, hit hard.  Being a senior is full of hard work, anxiety, and difficult choices.  Is this what high school students long for?  Sure, there are some benefits: the fun of raising money for your dream senior trip, deciding class moto and song, senior prom, being upperclassmen.  But this is only disguising the real deal.

I've been there before. After all the college applications were over with, I started to relax a little. I had fun. You should enjoy the moment while it lasts. You will have another four years in college to panic about life and what you want to do in your life. High school students at this point is thinking and worrying too much. It can be very unhealthy. I felt like I've wasted my high school years. Now, I'm trying to make it up while I'm going to college. You'll find life even more challenging with you attend college as a freshmen, sophomore, junior or even senior. It will never stop. So, smile and welcome it. That's what life is all about. =D

Thank you for the words of advice. Yes, I know I should be enjoying life while I still am living at home, not having to worry about finances, etc., etc., etc. But for me it's very difficult because I'm not a very independent person, and the thought of "growing up" is still daunting. Plus, trying to decide where to go to college and an area to major in is another biggie. But, I truly am enjoying it...I guess it's just not living up to what it's cut out to be.
