College Purgatory

Hi!

i know i haven't posted a blog in about 3486347 years. sorry. life's rough. well i wanted to touvh up on the subject of college and the application process and just plainly how much it SUCKS.

So i applied to about 7 schools- FIU, UCF, UF, UWF, USF, Penn State, && Hartford. Don't ask why i applied to Penn, miracles happen right?

Well first off, i DO NOT ABSOLUTELY NO WAY EVER IN LIFE want to stay in Miami. I'm sick of the life style the people everything. Don't get me wrong i love it, but i'm just sick of it. sorry. So my dream school would be UF and second choice would be UCF. I love their atmosphere and location (very far from here).

The application process in itself was long and draining. Each applicatioin has about 15 plus pages to fill out and i did 7 of them; all asking the same boring things blah blah blah. Filled them out. ok done.

Needless to say my stupid high school never recieved my transcripts from my old school- Southridge. Ahh. headache. So I had to call southridge everyday for about two weeks to yell at them to send my transcripts to ABC. Finally 3 weeks passed and they were sent. Paid $3 for sending each transcript to every school which equaled $21 no to mention all the application fees i had to pay.

Then comes the SAT/ACT. I understand there needs to be standarized testing to ensure college success and all that crap, but why why why couldn't they have invented it one year AFTER i graduated so i wouldn't have to take it??? So i took a SAT prep class my junior year and took the SAT in November. GO FIGURE! i forgot everything i learned, well almost. Took it in November and got a 1010. Some people say it's amazing but i say it's crap. i mean compared to the 2 billion kids who are getting 1300. come one. So i retook it in December the day before my birthday and what do you know? i did WORSE! 970. horrible. all that crap about the more you take it the better your score will be. crap. Then i took the ACT and wow did i do bad. 19, sorry mom.

With all that chaotic nonsense out of the way i had to apply for the florida bright futures scholarship while listening to al my family memebers hound me every day saying the i need to apply for other scholarships. Needless to say my junior year i wrote about 14 essays for those lame schoalrships on fastweb and no response. w/e. I was doing about 3 counselor request forms for 2 weeks to apply for bright futures when i finally grabbed one and circled EMERGENCY on that paper about 100 times. and the next day my counselor called me down and asked what the emergency was and i told her. "Bright futures scholarship. apply. now." She laughed explained that you only circle emergency when it's an actualy emergency and blah blah blah. i think my college future is more important than some little ninth grader being upset about someone calling them fat, but that's just me. Well i applied, and waited for my counselor to submit my grades. another week of constantly harrasing my counselor when finally. yes! i qualifed for 75% scholarship. life is good.

However, i still haven't been accepted to any schools what so ever, so im shitting my pants. But the saving grace is, i haven't been denied either. This waiting process is very hard on me and probally everyone else in their senior year unless your one of those who just dont give a shit. So in mere anxiety i had my family, teachers, and friends write reccomendation letters for the schools, just so i can have some type of response back so the schools know that im still alive and waiting. It really sucks when all your friends run up to you in pure exctasy singing "i got accepted to __________ University". I hate those songs. they make me feel like slitting my wrists. Waiting sucks.

well that was my experience of the college process so far. we shall see the outcome....

as i am still waiting to see where i go...
got accepted to fiu, university of hartford, and penn state

Sounds complicated.... I actually dropped out of high school in Israel, of all places, and applied to college from Israel (I'm a US citizen, grew up in Israel though), and it was crazy. I didn't have a high school diploma or a GED. I had to do the SATs on my own... like, study for them with a CD I bought, and then find the one center in Israel that gives them. I got 1920 (which is on the new SAT, on the old one I believe I would've gotten either 1220 or 1280, depending on whether they used the reading or writing component. Decent certainly but not enough to get into the Ivy Leagues, but whatever, there's loads of other good schools). I actually hardly applied to any colleges... I ended up getting accepted to my second-choice college (Evergreen State College, my first choice was Reed), and now I'm happy I got rejected from my first choice because I LOVE it here. I wasn't able to get ANY scholarships though... so count yourself lucky that you've started that sort of work ahead of time!
