This video was brought to the attention of LiveLeak over a month ago. The person who leaked the video gave the name and phone number of the soldier. It has not been found out if it is a hoax or not, but still....If it isn't a hoax, it makes me sad to call these guys soldiers of the American people. I can understand the stress they are going through, but that doesn't give you the excuse to kill an animal all to let off some steam.
This leads me into an argument with these sanctity of life yahoos. Listen, I know how you get all nostalgic about humanities sanctity of life, but seriously why do we need to be so self-interested only in ourselves? I'm sure you feel compassion for this dog, but it means nothing because it isn't human and isn't worthy of its own sanctity of life. If we're going to treat humans with respect, why not animals? After all, humans are animals that's why we're called homo sapiens.
The Marine Corps is looking into the matter to see if this is authentic. If this is, then it is a deplorable act even if you're under stress. If it is a hoax then I hope that the person who posted it will pay for this injustice they are doing to the soldier who they claimed tossed the puppy off a cliff. I hold judgement on any of them until this situation is resolved, but I don't hold off judgement on the idea that human life is somehow more sacred than others things life. Because it isn't. If human life is so sacred, then other life should be as well. So why don't we all treat our world with a little more respect?

I don't care if these people are our soldiers, they shouldn't be doing such things! Even if it's "just a dog".

I hope it can be cleared up soon. We don't need bad press about our soldiers.

Yeah. Killing anything that is totally defenseless is wrong, especially if it's for fun. I don't have a problem with killing animals for food, but at least treat them humanely first...

It caught our news yesterday, apparently it’s not a hoax and the guy who did this is going to have to explain himself in court.
Real sad to see this, if he would had done this to a human I could still relate to it, but this is way sick!
This guy suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, what will he become when he gets back between his loved ones?
Really? I hadn't heard that they've proven if it was a hoax or not. Truly is a shameful act, PTSS or not, it is no excuse for letting off stress that way.

Ok, the news here says that this soldier returned from Irak and is Hawaiian, because of all the protest that has taken place on you tube, they have opened up a (military) investigation, and he will face serious sanctions if things turn out to be against his favour.
The website of his mother is apparently being overwhelmed with hate emails… How sad is that…
I don't know why people are taking it out on his mother. That's just as bad as him throwing the puppy off the cliff.

Either way, I feel bad for him and his family. I feel bad for him because he brought it on himself in such a stupid manner or because someone has just smeared his reputation for no good reason. His family because they get dragged into something they had no control whatsoever over.

We don't know how the animal is treated outside of the act. I think judgment should depend more on that.

Right. You've seen my blog ideas I have on people and animals, but I'm at a crossroads for that stuff. I mean, people do it, so I see nothing wrong with animals doing it as long as their treated right.

So I saw this on CNN and they said they highly advised me to look away but didn't say what it was going to be. I saw this the day after I had to put my dog to sleep, I am disgusted by this, and I of course cried. CNN wouldn't waste their time with a hoax, adn they said that officials are investigating it and quetioning the Marine and that he may be discharged or have some sort of consequences. So sad :[
Yeah. It truly is a sad day when this type of stuff happens.
You know i didn't even know this had happened until one day the 1st Marine Division Sergeant Major Had came down to my unit and gave us all an hour long lecture. For those of you who dont know the 1st Marine Division Sergeant Major is a pretty big deal and the 1st Marine Division is in Camp Pendelton CA. After the lecture I of course had to go watch the video. And I can tell you that was a real situation and that the Marine is not being handled lightly.
We all saw it on the news weeks ago but. I would just like to add my perspective and squash what I may. From what we were told he is being prosecuted to the fullest extent under jurisdiction of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and with such a public upheaval that is quite possibly the worst thing ever.
I personally was disgusted. i don't care how stress full combat or our job is. There is no excuse for such an act of evil. This Video wasn't even shot in Iraq. I joined the Marine Corps to be a part of an elite honored group of men and women with a proud heritage. Not a group of low life swine. I pray that justice is swift and burdensome for that individual.
That really comforted my feelings towards this situation, I am glad that you realize what he did wasn't right and that you know what you stand for.
This soldier was indeed not all that wise, Marine's are not to be blamed or pointed out...

I know the Marine Corps isn't low life swine. And I am glad to see that this is being handled. He is only a very very small minority of people in the marines, probably one of only a handful. You've joined a great group.
So supposedly the dude got reprimanded in some way. I didn't hear how, but I heard from some friends that he did. Dick deserves some punishment, I like dishonerable discharge.
