Do I have the freedom not to care?

I am a person who cares very much about my country and its future in this world. But obviously, as voter turnout percentages have come in over the last couple of decades show, there are many Americans who do not care enough about their futures and the futures of fellow Americans. Are there any truly and honestly good reasons for not getting off you booty and voting for the people that represent you and your countrymen? I am personally struggling to understand my generation and the younger people who do not care enough to vote for their next president in primaries, caucuses, etc. I know that people have to work and earn a living and so maybe a primary/caucus is not for them. Fine. But why not vote for their president. I love how many people here, particularly the younger people, feel like the have the right to complain without fulfilling their responsibility to vote. It is my belief that you do not have the right to complain about how the people who are running this nation are doing it unless you use your right to vote. Of course, I know it is people's right to complain and say when they are not happy with what their elected leaders are doing, in fact, I applaud them for doing so..but when you have the opportunity to vote and you choose not to because you were too tired to go after work or would rather watch the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy instead, then I think I will just tune you out. People have the right not to care about what type of government or leaders they will have but I believe if they want an America that they can be honestly proud of being a part of and if they want their leaders to listen to them, then they must vote. I think this is where young people who can vote but don't have gone wrong before. They believe that other people, mainly the older people who DO vote, will have their best interests in hearts. But why trust someone to give your issues a voice when you have one that you can utilize all by yourself by casting a vote.
