Gosh... I have finally made it. . .

[5-9-08 is when i wrote this but as i have previously stated in earlier blogs my librarian blocked progrresiveu]

10:10 a.m.

It's really hard to believe i have FINALLY made it! I really figured i would be in tears by now. I mean i am half way threw my last day of high school & i have no clue what i am going to do with the wrest of my life.

i mean i know i need to go to college and i want to go to JSU starting in the fall, but there are many obstacles in my way. For starters I don't have the money. I have applied for at least 30 scholarships, seriously. And how many have i received?? NONE! Well at least i haven't heard anything back from them so im pretty sure that means i didn't get them. Right?

But i did get accepted to JSU. Not that it really matters with no money. But i made a 21 on my ACT not the greatest score in the world but i only took it once and most of my friends made 19s. I also have a 3.45 GPA not exactly a 4.0 but it could have been worse.

So how come i can't get any scholarships?? I can't help i am not a complete genius or completely poor. Im just average.. Do average people not deserve help too?? I think we do.. I mean my dad put it this way "We have enough money to not get help, but not enough to pay for college." Blah.. I mean it really is true though.

There is my dad & step-mom raising an 18 yr old, 2 yr old, and 5 day old this isnt very cheap. Although the fact i don't have a job doesnt help either, but babies are expensive. Especially when one is born with Cleft Lip which is going to require a lot of surgeries to repair.

Plus i need to be here to help my family when my youngest baby brothee has to go threw all these surgeries so how am i suppose to go away to college and not feel guilty??
College or family?? that isnt a good decision to have to make.

Hmmm...What is a girl to do?

I guess I could go rob a bank to pay for all these expenses except i would end up in prison. ha! I would never attempt to rob a bank.. it was sarcasim so don't call the cops.

If you have any advice feel free to give it.

You'll be more help to your family in the long run if you graduate from college and get established in a good career.

And honestly, student loans aren't the worst thing in the world. Yes, you will pay them of forever, but the payments are not usually huge, and there are a lot of options when you find yourself in a financial pinch.

I'm never a fan of debt. I strongly hold to Dave Ramsey's principles when it comes to debt.

That said, College loans, like a mortgage, should be looked at as an investment. The hard part is not getting the loans, but developing the discipline to pay them off when you are done with college.

I am blessed in that I found a college inexpensive enough that I can (if I spend nothing outside of my budget) pay out of pocket for (600 a month). That and college loans from my first go take up about 2/3rds of my paycheck, but I can swing it.

NEVER get into credit card debt, but do not feel horrible about school loan debt.

for the advice..

but i am really scared of student loans but if all else fails i will definately look into it.

Why? Doctors typically come out of school with huge debt in student loans, as I'm sure do lawyers and many, many other professionals. Are you only afraid that you won't be able to secure a job after graduation to pay them off?

What do you plan on doing (or majoring in)? If you're that worried, you might want to consider just getting a certificate and working with that certificate for a while. Most certificate problems last less than a year, and so they won't be a huge financial burden when you're done.

Did you apply for financial aid? schools often have scholarships that they will give out, and there is aid available for families that aren't dirt poor. When applying for loans, be sure to do your research.

Of course it would be better for you to go to college. If I have to push you every day I will! I have to push myself to go back to school. Its not easy especially when you are raising a kid. Apply to a bunch of scholarships. No you may not win every single one, but anything helps. Did you already apply for financial aid? If you have to get a student loan, make sure the interest rate is not too high. If you decide what field you are going in like a accountant for example, try to work at a bank. The bank will help you pay for college. Keep your head up. They say God won't give you too much that you can't handle. Well I think that is how it goes.

everyone needs a little pushing every once in awhile. :]

i will apply to many more scholarships because i need them!

nope i havent but i need to apply for financial aid though...

my stepmom already told me that a bank will pay for yur college because her sister in law did that..

but i really want to do something with animals.. such as an animal trainer, marine biology, zoo keeper, etc.

Good thinking. So try to see if the zoo, vet clinic, or aquarium offers to help pay for your college if you work at one of their locations. You would be amazed at how many jobs do this.

the funny thing is that my dad and i were having this convo las night but he told me that he thinks the job i want is a job that only like 1 out of 849494894983893893 people have. but i told him im going to be the next jack hannah (hope that is spelt correctly) i can have dreams cant i??
